WHEN I AM TRYING TO CAPTURE VIDEO FROM THE FIREWIRE PORT SOME DALAYS AND GAPS ARE SHOWN AND THE CAPTURE PROCEDURE IS NOT SMOOOTH.
THA SAME HAPENS WHEN I TRY TO PLAY BACK A SCENE IN EDIT MODE.
IT SEEMS LIKE THE PC IS NOT AS POWERFULL AS IT SHOULD BE.
I DONT HAVE THE SEME PROBLEMS WITH MY OLD DESKTOP PC

What version of Video Studio are you using?
What format are you capturing your video in over the firewire connection: DV or mpeg-2?
If you are capturing DV, then you should check that you are capturing using Type 1 encoder. In the Capture page, click on the Options icon. If it is set to Type 2 Encoder (which it normally is by default), then change it to Type 1.
If you are capturing direct to mpeg-2, then yes, your laptop may not have the resources to be able to convert the incoming DV signal from your DV camera into mpeg-2 on the fly, and you will get erratic video as a result. In that case, make sure you are capturing DV and not mpeg-2.

Might be helpful to know if you are dropping frames. Go to File>Preferences>Capture tab and check the Show Drop Frame Information box.
