Mike,
An example of Project properties is as follows:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
There are two more sets like this: Capture properties and Burn properties.
I can't help you if you don't provide this detailed information.

This is what shows up at the bottom of the box when I open up "project properties". I can see there is a difference in KHz between the wav I use (44KHz) and the project property KHz (48KHz), but how that's relevant and how I can correct that is something I'm not sure of. (Note-I use analog footage).
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48 KHz, Stereo
As for the burn properties, I don't think they're relevant right now because I've discovered the extreme music distortion is present as an mpeg before it's even converted to DVD.
I'm giving serious thought to scrapping the whole project, deleting all video files I used, and starting from scratch by importing the footage again from my camcorder and doing it all over. It's a last resort solution, but if it could possibly solve this problem I'd be willing to do it. Maybe there's something I did not do properly on the first attempt.
Is this necessary?

Hi Mike
Reading the postings it would appear that your capture/project and burn settings are incorrect.
Right click the clip in the timeline / properties will show the captured clip settings. (Post them)
What area are you in? Pal or Ntsc?
If you are in a Ntsc area then use the settings provided by jchunter 2 in the previous posting
Have a read at my guide Setting Project Properties for Mpeg Capture
http://www.stephen-wray.co.uk/lata/vs/all.htm
If you are Ntsc then stick to jchunters settings.
Also read the tutorials from
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=27

Ok guys........here are all of the appropriate settings you're looking for (except burn settings because burning isn't the problem after all.....its extreme distortion of the music after I save it as an mpeg and play the video through a normal 2 speaker setup).
First off, we have the properties of the clips themselves. I got these from right-clicking on one of the clips (keep in mind the sound from the clips were not imported with the video. I'm laying music over everything):
File:
File name - ~.mpg
File format - NTCS DVD
File size 80,000 kb
duration - (irrelevant)
Video:
Video Type - MPEG2 Video, Upper Field First
Attributes - 24 bits, 720x480, 4:3
Frame Rate - 29.970 frames/second
Data Rate - Variable (8000 max)
Audio:
Type - LPCM Audio
Attributes - 48 KHZ, stereo
layer - (blank)
bit rate - blank)
Next we have my project properties:
at the Compression Tab: media type - NTSC DVD ; Qaulity 70
video settings - I-frame only (unchecked); DVD VR Compliant (unchecked); video data rate is variable, 8000
audio settings - audio format LPCM Audio; audio type and audio frequency are faded and can't be changed.
God bless anyone that can find the necessary tweak so that I can have normal soundind music coming from this project!! LOL......

Ok sorry one more question!
From file / preferences tick ‘show messages when inserting first….’
Now start a new project
Insert the completed video file that you made from share-create video file.
You will receive pop up window asking to change the project settings to match the video,
select details,
What are the video settings?

I believe I gave you all the video settings I can. I included the settings from the clips themselves and from the project properties. Is there something else you need?trevor andrew wrote:Ok sorry one more question!

When you say ( I included the settings from the clips themselves )
Do you mean the captured ones or the completed video.

Originally I meant the clips themselves.
Here's what I've done. I've started a new project, imported the completed video that has the extremely loud/distorted music, and said 'yes' to the question about changing the settings to match the project settings. What now? Below are the properties of this completed mpeg that I imported with music and all.
File -
File format - MPEG-2
Video-
Video Type - MPEG2 Video
Attributes - 24 bits, 720x480, 4:3
Frame rate - 29.970 frames/sec
Data rate 0 Variable Bit Rate (Max 6000)
Audio -
Audio Type - MPEG Audio Layer 2 Files
Attributes - 44KHZ, 16 bit, Stereo
Layer - 2
Bit Rate - 256 KBS
Do you see any problems with these settings? Again, these are the settings of my completed video in MPEG format. These are not properties of the working project. Can I tweak this completed MPEG to improve the sound, or will I need to open the project of the video and tweak something from that point? Or do I need to wipe the whole thing out and start from scratch.
Can't thank you guys enough for your time and thoughts dealing with my troubles......I really do appreciate it.

Hi Mike
The audio settings at 44khz is incorrect.
As far as I am aware 48 khz is recommended
I don’t know what effect this will have as I have always used 48khz.
Look at the earlier posting from jchunter Mon Dec 20, 2004 1:30 pm for his recommended settings.
Change your project properties to match.
Create video file ‘same as project settings’
If this does not improve your audio, you may have to recapture using the correct settings.
Hope this helps

captured video quality is POOR!!!
I have read 'Recommended work flow', but the highest setting for frame size available in my capture settings is 640x480. 720x480 does not show up, is this important? Also, I have all my capture settings as specified, MPEG-2., 8614, variable, 29.97, lower field first,. Issue is caputred video quality (when I play back on Windows Media Player or burn it to DVD) is jerky, poor color, very grainy, not even close to what is viewed on the DV camcorder. I don't think I am being too fussy, it is not something I would want for my family memories. 3.2 Gig, new computer, lots of hard drive space, USB caputure. Please help. Using VS8.
