Short answer is yes -- I regularly clean it out (i.e. every week or so) and have never had a problem.

Slightly longer answer: Windows itself will prevent you from cleaning it out entirely if a temp file is currently necessary to some other computer operation. Case in point: after sending my post yesterday, I decided it was time for another house clean. Some 400-odd files had accumulated (!! ) and I managed to clean all but 3 of them off the computer. When XP got to a particular file in a sequence I was trying to delete, it paused for a few seconds, gave that ominous 'bump' sound, and told me sternly that the file could not be deleted as it was currently in use. But in my experience, there are never more than 3 or 4 files like this. And next time, after having rebooted the computer a few times, those particular files, if they even remain in the Temp file, are reasily removed... (Usually I find they have been quite properly deleted by their associated program after their temporary existence had served its purpose...)

Ken

Thank you very much for your tip, but clearing cache didn't help me.
(I already tried that before you mentioned it)

I even tried changing the temp directory to much bigger harddrive, but that doesn't work, either.

What should I do no?

I assume you have defragged your hard drives and have lots of free space (20 GB is safe), have DMA enabled, and your system page file size at least as large as your real memory).

If so, then try a reinstall of VS after performing a COMPLETE uninstall..

If that doesn't work, contact Ulead Tech support.

Sound flickers when viewing project

Post by cmlegend »

Hi,

I use dolby (ac3) as recorded sound format when filming and when viewing the "project", it flickers. If I just view the clip or view the final results after outputting the file it works fine.

Any idea why it does that?

Thanks..cmlegend

Hi guys, I bought VS10 two weeks ago and have spent all that time trying to convert camcorder footage of my son's wedding to DVD. All I got for my trouble was a jerky movie and a very angry wife. That is until I found this forum! After reading jchunter's tips as well as quite a few others I now have a wedding DVD worthy of showing off and my marriage still in one piece. So a BIG thanks to jchunter_2 for this thread and to all the guys who post advise and tips in here.

Help with Video Studio v6 - can't transcode AVI to MPEG2

Post by chrisandsammy »

Hi
been following the tuitorials on how to make a DVD but when I try to Create a Video file the Video Save Options Compressions Tab only gives me NTSC VCD or PAL VCD or MPEG-1 - it does not give me PAL DVD as a Media Type option as it shows in the Tuitorial.

Any help appreciated.

What version of VideoStudio are you running?
Oops! Just saw the title of your post V6 eh?
Is it an "SE" version by any chance?

That "SE" version is crippled and probably cannot create a DVD. It is also way out of date.
VS is up to version 10 and 10Plus now.
If you go to the Ulead website you will be able to see your options for upgrading. I think VS6 still qualifies.
I am surprised software so old was bundled with the card. Most of the posts I have seen lately suggest that manufacturers that are bundling VS with hardware are at least providing VS8.

Thanks

Yeah, I just checked the Ulead website. Your version does qualify for the upgrade price to VS10Plus which is US $59.00.
Basically each hardware manufacturer buys a license from Ulead and what you get depends on what that manufacturer is prepared to pay for. I still don't think Ulead are doing themselves any favours by allowing such out of date sofware to be bundled as it leaves a bad taste in the mouth for the user.
If you do decide to upgrade make sure you check the system requirements as I see you are at the low end of the RAM stakes as well as CPU.
Good luck!

TBD?

Post by rturenne »

I'm new to this so I haven't mastered all the acronyms yet. What does TBD stand for, as in the instruction to "update TBD?" Thanks.
