I doubt that you will like the quality. VCD is mpeg1 encoded at small frame sizes and highly compressed (low bitrate). It will have to be recoded to DVD compliant mpeg2 losing another generation. I would not convert but leave it as is. Most DVD players can play VCD disks.

Thanks for that I understand but is it possible to do and if so how. I ask because a friend of mine cannot play the disc on his DVD player.

Depends on what software you have, but what you want to do is import the mpeg1 file from the vcd and then convert it to mpeg2 dvd file, author your dvd and burn.

I don't have any software to convert the files but understand there are frere trial ones on the net.

The VCD file contains 4 folders

SEGMENT - Item 1 and Item 2
these look like audio files

VCD - Entries.VCD
Info.VCD
Lot.VCD
PSD.VCD

EXT - Lot.XVCD
PSD.XVCD
SCANDATA

MPEGAV which doesn't contain any files

Can you help in any way and/or recommend any software.

Thanks

There is no need to recode to mpeg2 because mpeg-1 Video on Standard VCD's are ALREADY DVD-Compliant -- you just have to convert the audio to 48khz.
Some Ulead software even offer an mpeg template to Archive 6 VCD's onto 1 DVD.

@girly,
What type of VCD do you have (and how large is the entire VCD Structure) -- does it contain actual video, or is it a slideshow, or some pics with audio, or other? Also, do you know what software was used to create the VCD? In the past, I was able to pull the mpeg-1 video from the MPEGAV folder (but you mentioned yours was empty, which makes me wonder if you have a slideshow or something else -- the items in your SEGMENT folder could be the slides/music for a VCD Slideshow)

Regards,
George

This is a slideshow with music and I don't know what software was used to make it. I was just given the disc to put on a DVD but didn't know it was a VCD until I played it.

Any help appreciated.
