Render vs. Play

Post by sgraham »

I am a longtime version 8 user. I make a lot of short promo clips. Typically I would go in to Share and set the Mark In and Mark Out and play the clip before rendering. Although baloon help says 'Play Trimmed Clip', when I hit play the program tries to render the clip/project. Going to Clip Mode throws me back to edit and the Mark in/out is not the same. I have not been able to figure this out, help appreciated. - Steve

Hi Steve

Have just tried VS 8 with no problems, not that I normally use the Mark in / out function,

Have you selected High Quality Playback in File Preferences¡XPlayback Method. This would force a render prior to playback in project mode

Regards

In version 10 that I upgraded to, you set mark in and out and it says play but hitting the play button it starts to render. very frustrating. Not same behavior in 8 but am now on 10 and still need help. The 'new' clip view, project view is no help at all, very confusing...and this from a long time user. I have made over 150 movies with 8 and still having problems with this simple task. other modifications/feature adds are great.

You didn't answer Trevor's question. Go to File>Preferences>General Tab. About halfway down you will see Playback Method. Choosing High Quality will render the file before playback. Instant Playback will playback, um, instantly.

Sorry to rain on your parade, especially when you are tired! But I am afraid that that particular Preference was identical in VS8 as well. I just checked my own installation of VS8 to see that was the case. Unfortunately, I no longer have VS7 installed, but I distinctly recall it being in that too, as it is in VS9 and now 10... So you must have looked at it at some stage...

Hi

I agree with you Ken, the default setting is Instant Playback.
If High Quality Playback was selected then this has been done manually by the user.

Unless there is a fault with installation. :?:
