PhotoImpact 8 DVD Menu Plug-in

Post by leicray »

I'm a bit confused about the resources needed to run the DVD Menu Plug-in with version 8 of PhotoImpact. I have downloaded the plug-in from http://www.ulead.co.uk/pi/plugin.htm and it seems to install without any errors.

However, I cannot find the menu in PhotoImpact but perhaps that's because I'm not looking in the correct place. The documentation seems to be of little help in this respect.

Could it be that I also need to have DVD Workshop installed in addition to PhotoImpact? I do not own DVD Workshop and I only need to edit menus for use with VideoStudio 10. The install notes do refer to:
You must also download and install the latest DVD Workshop patch before installing the Menu Plug-in.
I took that to mean that you had to install that patch IF you had DVD Workshop installed and that the program was not mandatory to make the plug-in work.

Can somebody please clarify this for me?

Many thanks,

Raymond

From the PhotoImpact Menu bar across the top of the screen look for [Effect] and it should be in the drop down list.

Thanks for the info Steve.

It would never have occured to me that I'd find the DVD wizard on the Effect menu. I wonder who decided that that was the logical place to put it.

The fact that it's on the Effect menu also compunds the problems for the newbie user of this plug-in because that menu is not visible when you first launch PI. It's only once you have created a canvas of the correct size and have placed an object on it (a piece of text will do) that the plug-in will actually work correctly.

Had I been designing the DVD Menu wizard, it would be possible to run it directly from a visible menu and would prompt the user through every aspect of creating the template.

Perhaps Ulead (Corel?) will rethink the plug-in in a future version.
