Back to Menu Option Does Not Appear to Work

Post by Jeffrey604 »

Hello,

I have created a project with chapter breaks, as well as tried creating a file and adding chapter breaks after the fact. Either way, it seems that when I burn the DVD (or test it beforehand), the "Back to menu" option for "Clip playback" does not seem to function properly. In all cases, the DVD continues to play after the chapter mark and does not return to the menu until the DVD has played all the way to the end. Does anyone know what might cause this? Is there a solution? I would love to be able to return the user to the menu after each clip/chapter.

Thank you,
Jeff

It should work for individual clips (separate clips are called Titles). Now if you add Chapters to a Title, then jumping to a Chapter will start at that chapter point, and play all the way through that Title (think Hollywood DVD where you jump to a Scene, and it plays from that scene all the way to the end of the movie).

George

In the burning module, when you click on the middle cogwheel Options icon in the bottom left of screen, what have you got selected down at the bottom of the pop-up screen beside 'Clip Playback'? (You need to untick the previous item 'Auto repeat when disc playback ends' for the Clip Playback box to become active.) It gives the choice of either return to menu or to continue to play the next clip.

Ken, I read the original post differently. I think the poster has already selected "Back to Menu" (the only way they would ever have known/seen the Back to Menu option is if they already unchecked the "Auto repeat..." box).

I think the OP is seeing what happens when you add chapters to a Title -- when you jump to one of those chapters, it plays from that point all the way until the end of that clip (Title). NOTE: this is normal behavoir.

The puzzling thing is why it did not work if the OP also tried separate clips...

On the other hand, perhaps I misunderstood the original post

Thanks George and Ken!

I had set up the options as Ken described, but think I am misunderstanding the difference between a "Title" and a "Clip". If I want the DVD to return the menu after each clip/section, it sounds like I need to render the DVD in multiple phases and then piece them together (add several files to the project) when I go to burn the DVD. Is this correct? Would that put the viewer back at the DVD menu after the clip is finished without playing through the rest of the clips?

Thanks,
Jeff

Yes. The "back to menu" works for CLIPS, not for Chapters within a Clip (unless you are on the last chapter of the clip).

I think the confusion is the difference between Clips and Chapters. Think of Clips (also called Titles) as a separate video file. Chapters are marks you place within that Title. If you jump to a Chapter, it will play from that point through the end of that Title. To make it work the way you want, each "section" should be a separate clip, and then you can have it go "Back to Menu" after playing that Clip.

Hi

You should make a video file of each project, Share--Create Video File.

Then start a new project.
Share Create Disc¡XAdd Video

For each video file you Add you will get a thumbnail in the timeline. Each one will have a menu button in the first main menu page.

The ¡¥navigation controls¡¦ under the Options Cogwheel¡¦ controls these files and the way the dvd plays them.
So selecting Back to Menu will play the select video and return to menu
Selecting ¡¥continue to play next clip¡¦ will play the dvd to the end then return to menu.

And that¡¦s about it.

Chapter Points

For each video file you inserted, you can add chapter points.

These chapter points are NOT controlled by the Navigation Controls, but allow you to jump to another chapters using your remote control whilst viewing the dvd.

Regards
