Thanks for previous help. Now scratching my head over another problem.
Am capturing from Canon dvd camera. carefully saving to harddrive(c) and then copying onto an external harddrive(h). Using ulead vid movie centre 9, format DV and option 1( inclusive audio track)
Appears to be successful and and able to play it back immediately and edit etc. Then save it for future use.
When I try and open it up at a later date from either hard disk I get the following response - Original file(C:\Documents & Settings| richard m.....\My documents\My videos\uvs.............AVI) does not exist.
When then trying to close it the following appears - 'Some clips have not been relinked successfully., Its gone midnight here and I'm tearing my hair out!
Its maddening!
So, any ideas welcomed.

First, it is not clear to me what you are doing with the workflow you describe. If your camera is a mini-DVD one (as opposed to a mini-DV tape one), then the DVD video you have saved to C:\ is in DVD-compatible mpeg-2 format. If you intend to produce an edited DVD of it, then there is no point in converting it up to DV format (in fact, through the reconversion process, you would lose quality rather than the quality improvement you might think you will get.)
Next, when you start your project, does it refer to the original files on your C:\ drive? If you made your project, then moved the original files to the external drive and erased them from C:\, Video Studio will not be able to see them. Make sure that the external drive is connected and switched on, and point Video Studio to it when it says some files have to be relinked. Select a file for re-linking and the rest should normally follow automatically.

Thanks Ken for reply, but am not any clearer. In answer to your reply
1. Am using DV tape and download automatically goes to DV format.
2. Am saving to main hard drive and then copying to back up hard drive. Not deleting from C drive.
3. The response when opening from either hard drive is thesame as described.
3 Having edited etc it gets saved as aVSP (no apparent alternative) and is only a few kb which puzzles me.
Originally used Windows xp video suite but given ulead9 some time ago. cant say it is as user friendly as MS but if I can crack it many more bells and whistles.
You will gather that I am a novice and I dont understand the relinking process. When I seek to do so I am invited to open a file but what Then?
Cheers - guess I'm on a par with our cricketers!

The .vsp file is your Video Studio Project file which is indeed only a few kilobytes as it is simply a text file which keeps a record of which bits of what video or music etc. should be included in your final masterpiece.
When told that a file does not exist you are in fact being asked to find the file again for VideoStudio because it's file system has lost track of it maybe due to you moving/copying it and you should use the Relink option to browse to the specified video file and select it - having done that - unless you move files around again then VideoStudio should remember where your files are next time.
In earlier versions we used to have quite a lot of problems with relinking particularly when daylight saving time was started/stopped - but that seems to have been cured now. just relink to the file VS is telling you does not exist and all will be well

Apologies about the confusion over your work flow, though your original post *did* say you were working with a Canon DVD camera, not a mini-DV one.
And just to expand a little on my own second para and Brian's helpful answer, when you originally capture footage, unless you have changed things in File > Preferences > General > Working Folder, your captured footage goes to My Documents>Ulead Video Studio > 10.0. If you then have your project running, and insert that captured video, then the short road-map of your project, which, as Brian says, is what the VSP file is, will record that the files making up the project are stored at My Documents>Ulead Video Studio > 10.0.
But if, after saving the project file, you then copy the files to external disc X:\ AND you erase the files from My Documents>Ulead Video Studio > 10.0 (thinking erroneously that they are now part of the VSP file), then the next time you open the project, the VSP will still be thinking the constituent video files are at My Documents>Ulead Video Studio > 10.0. Only they aren't.
So when you get the Relink message, you have to point the Browse box that appears to X:\ instead. Select the file that the program is looking for, and it will be re-linked. Usually, all the others are then re-linked automatically if they are in the same place on X:\ drive.
And next time you save it, the road-map VSP will now change the signpost to tell Video Studio that the constituent files are on X:\ drive...
