Going from memory, they usually wait for at least a round year to pass between versions, perhaps even a little longer.

I expect they are already working on the next version. But Ulead has also been a bit distracted this past year, first with InterVideo buying a controlling interest in it, then Corel taking over both.

There have apparently been a lot of staff changes, and of course that would have further implications for any release of a new version.

Yes. If I remember correctly, the product cycle is about 1 year.

Yes, they are.

What do you expect to get out of VS 11 since problems with VS 10+ don't seem to have been fixed? Do you need a new set of problems or do you get bored once you know how to use one version?

They want to add more unusable filters (like the anti-shake introduced in VS10) and

port it to Vista only just to annoy Win2000/XP users,

make on-line registration mandatory for those without net access,

and stick with one single level of menus in authoring,

give us 18 levels of videos overlays, but stay with only 2 audio tracks (song one on track 1, song 2 starting just before the end to transition on track 2, leaving no track for voice, no track for sound effects...)

while avoiding to correct the 4 years old bugs (like pan and zoom)

Actually, I've not purchased it yet. I now it was in Mar or Apr of last year when 10 came out. I suspect, as soon as I purchase 10, they'll release 11...then want an upgrade fee for me.

That would be a likely fate :? . Only way to avoid this is to actually wait until it is released, purchase straight away and become one of the "beta" testers for it until the first patch is released

Do you expect it to be that much better than VS 10+ or are you just a person that always has to have the latest to feel good? I will not be upgrading unless it offers me something special, not available with the current version.

VS 11 might not be Vista only, I think it should support WinXP/MCE/Vista since there are still many users using WinXP/MCE....

I don't want to compare apples to oranges but that didn't prevent Microsoft from making FSX XP/Vista only. Reality Business.

(so they lost one customer because I bought every single version since Sublogic's FS on Tandy's TRS-80, and I'm not buying XP... But I digress)

might wait for v 12

Post by mwbritt »

Having a bad monday also, I might wait for v 12 and skip 11. I am miffed at the constant upgrade pricing! I paid for upgrades to v6,7,9,and 10 p. I skiped 8 and nothing bad happened.

What really irks me after paying all of this upgrade money that a friend of mine just bought 10p (original box not the upgrade) for about 100 bucks! I have paid more than my fair share to ulead. its time fro frikin FREE upgrades!!!!!!!

Hopefully the upgrades you bought provided additional features and functionality. Sometimes I skip an upgrade version, but it depends on what the new features are in the next version (I'm talking about software in general). If the new features/functionality of the next version don't appeal to you (or is not needed in your current situation), then there's no need to go out and get it. You can always download the TRIAL to see how well it works on your machine, and what benefits you will see...

NOTE: I have no info about V11

upgrades

Post by mwbritt »

Hi George.

The point I was trying to make was that someone can buy the latest package off the street for 100$. While all of the upgrades have cost me darn near 300$!!!! Yes, I did get new features but they cost too much. As a loyal customer I should be rewarded. Instead I feel abused. Someone who has never been a ULEAD customer is saving 200 bucks over my upgraded cost. there is a major inequity here. If ULEAD isnt getting enough money then hose the new customers, not the ones who have allready paid thier dues.

If users keep paying to upgrade year after year, Ulead will continue to "gouge". Therein lies the rub.

Ulead's not the only one. I just had to upgrade my Quickbooks software, as they were "phasing out" the version I had (2004). So I had to shell out $199 for basically the same darn software.

At least VideoStudio 10+ is WAY better than v6!

Anybody who buys upgrades just because they are there, has only got himself to blame. I make sure that the newer version has features I want before I upgrade.

Edited: Ooops, was rumbling on about PI 11, sorry

I still prefer to pay the upgrade price for a version I want over having to wait for a special to be had on the street. Your thinking is a bit flawed. Sure the guy who buys the boxed version on the street now pays, overall, less than you have but he/she had not have any use of it either

By your reasoning, Canon should give me the new EOS 400D at half the price because I was stupid enough (not) to buy my EOS 350D 18 months ago for about A$ 2,500.- the kit, now I can get the same kit for half that. Come off it, whatever it is your are smoking

As a beta tester this info is held in confidence, due to a NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement), however receiving an email that anyone could get, certainly takes it out of the NDA, so here it is...

Just go to Ulead's site, click to download the Vista patch for VS10. Then you can either d/l or cancel. I choose to cancel, as I was just testing the link. I then received a thank you email from Ulead, that included a coupon to apply toward a purchase. The coupon had an expiration date of June 30, 2007, and specified the products it could be applied towards. VS11, VS11 Plus, DVDMF6, DVDMF6 Plus or PI12.

So I guess Ulead let the cat out of the bag, that the next releases of VS and DVDMF will be before June 30...
