Well thank you for your opinion. However I will strongly disagree with it being anything close to fraud. You obviously don't have any substantial information to base this on, and did not bother to research why the program may have difficulties with this file format. Further have you requested any assistance here?

Why don't you read about Encoding Audio and Decoding Audio in the following article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3.

Here's a little more information that can explain why you may be having this problem: How MP3 Works

Now if you had bothered to SEARCH this forum, you would have found that it is recommended to convert MP3 to WAV before using them in Intervideo/Ulead programs, and why.

I will suggest using a free program, Audacity to convert your MP3 files to WAV, then try inserting them into your project.

Well thank you you for a realy useless reply, for a start it crashes even before it gets to that point where try loading a MP3 60% of the time, plus forgive me for expecting it to convert mp3, (IT'S WRITEN ON THE BOX, "SUPORTS mp3 CONVERSION")
They say it does it but it is incorrect. False Claims are:

You still haven't completed your system specifications.
As for MP3 there are many variants. Many users report issues with the Lame MP3 encoder - probably why its called Lame.

If you were wanting help, which I think that is the reason this board exists, then I suppose your post was really useful wasn't it? The links I directed you to, illustrates that the MP3 format can be problematic, due to no real standard. There are so many variations that it causes problems with several applications.

Fraud :?:, no don't think so. Why :?:, because there are several users that can use good MP3 codecs with this and other Intervideo/Ulead programs. But maybe they are doing something wrong, unlike you...

It works for others - so it can't be a fraud

cmin, please ask yourself two simple questions:

1) Can lots of other users import MP3 files successfully?

2) If the answer to (1) is yes (and it really has to be, doesn't it?), why doesn't it work for me?

To get help with getting it to work for you, you need to tell us more about your system and what you're doing.

As others have asked you, Please Read this Before Posting. and please complete your system specifications.

cmin,

Since you said "box", perhaps you can return it to the retailer. In general software is not returnable, but depending on the local laws where you live, the retailer may be required to take it back if it does not perform "as advertised."

I sympathize with your frustration. Ulead does seem to have trouble with some audio & video formats (more compressed = more trouble). You didn't say what video format you're working with, but if it's highly compressed (especially DivX or Xvid) that could be a problem too. It's too late now, but I always advise to download the free trial first. Although Ulead doesn't warn you about these problems, they do offer a 30-day free-trial download.

If you choose to continue using Movie Factory (or if you are stuck with it), we can help you work-around the problems. (i.e. convert your audio to WAV.) Assuming you are making a DVD, the audio will have to be converted anyway, since MP3 is not part of the DVD spec. Of course, Movie Factory should convert it for you...

Thank you for you reply, but the MP3 issue is now secondry to the crashing one, I think I made a mistake in purchasing a cheap programe, I should have spent a bit more.

cmin, I agree, you should have purchased an expensive program, there are a few that will set you back a mere $1,600, and still provide you with the same problems ( and more) that you are having with MF. However if you can not figure out this simple problem, especially after all the advice, then you will be in for a very, very, very long learning experience.
