Newbee needs widescren 16:9 help!!!!!!

Post by xtal01 »

HI,

I just put together a new computer. It has a video / capture card (ati x1900gt).

I am feeding it with a DirectTV standard definition satellite box using s-video (direct TV).

Looking at the movie wizard preview screen, I can not get it to view in wide screen mode. On channels that are being broadcast in widescreen I still see two bars (top and bottom). When I record, I get 16:9 but with the two bars still on the top and bottom.

I have my satellite box set to 16:9 output ratio.

I an using the Ulead MPEG capture plug-in for DirectShow capture driver. I have the capture setting set to dvd-ntsc 16:9.

How can I record these tv programs without the top and bottom black bars being present???

Is the problem with the feed (I don't own a wide screen tv to check if I have the satellite box set correct but it does say aspect ratio 16:9).

Could the problem be with my video capture card (video in video out is built into this card, it says ati t200 avstream ... I don't see any settings for aspect ration).

Is there some where in the program that I can set the movie wizard to 16:9 (I have the 16:9 icon clicked on the first page when it comes up ... videostudio 9 (SE) and gives me the choose of movie wizard or video studio editor).

I am just at a complete loss.

Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks ... Mike

But - unless you actually view it on a wide screen TV you will always get the bars - or a distorted picture.

The preview window in UVS is approx 4:3 (as by the sound of it are your TVs) - so if you put a wide screen video into it you have two choices - to display the full width of the wide screen video , but then it is not tall enough to reach top and bottom , so you need bars top and bottom, or your second choice is to fill the preview screen completely and to do that everything needs to be stretched vertically making every thing look tall and thin (most ladies like viewing like that) .

Try viewing your video on a wide screen TV and see what happens.
