You have two options when importing a 3DS file. On the dialogue box that opens you can select C2D or D3D. If you choose D3D it will apply the bmp to the model.

I have not made my question clear.I have downloaded a car in 3d but it is white only .With the download came bitmaps of vaying colours which are supposed to be applied to the white car to give body colour and hihlight ie headlamps.doors etc. How do I apply the bitmap to the white blank of the car?

As I said above select D3D and when it imports the 3DS file it will apply the bitmaps for you.

I am not making a very good job of explaining myself.I have downloaded a car model which came with 4 separate bitmaps. Each bitmap consists of 5 different views of the car.( 2side views .1 top.1 front.1 back.) The 5 views are on one bit map and cannot be separated. It's as tho the whole bitmap should be wrapped arond the blank white car. Each bitmap is a different colour therefore giving 4 different cars if I can work out how to use them.Selecting D3D still only imports a white blank which need the bitmaps applied to give the model colour and detail.

I'm not at my computer with C3DPS, but can't you apply the bitmap texture to the 3D object and WRAP the texture around all sides? That may be why you have a single bitmap with 5 different images on it . . .

Apply the entire bitmap to the top of the car and "Wrap" it?

Good luck,

No you made yourself clear enough. If the 3DS file has been saved properly then the D3D option would pick up the bmp and wrap it cprrectly around the model. It may be because there is more than one version and the 3DS file has been not been saved with the bmp applied.

If you want to see what I mean open up the sattelite in the 3DS folder in the Cool3DPS program folder. This is an example of importing a 3DS model with bmp. Its also shown as an example in the manual.

Can you give a screen shot of the 3DS model in C3DPS?

Maybe you can use DeepExploration to do some check.

The tutorial was the answer..I had been opening the file in the correct manner but all I was getting was a black fish with coloured eyes.Clicking on the WHITE button made all the difference.Sorry to have been such a pain. Now I have to try to track down tha car that started all this to see if the tut. will work on that problem. As ARNIE would say " I'll be back"
