Burned dvd won't play next clip -DMF4

Post by bat44 »

Hi newbie here.

Can't get the "play next clip" function to work right. Having a problem getting a burned project made of multiple mpeg clips to play all clips without going back to the menu. The dvd will play thru a couple clips then go back to main menu.

The project contains 2 separate intro clips, one big main clip, and two clips following to the end of dvd. It will play the two intro clips and the main clip, then stop and go back the menu and won't play the last 2 clips. Got the last 2 clips to play if I skip chapters at the end of the main movie clip. But it seems the link is broken between the big main clip and the 1st of the last two clips.

I have tried using the "play next clip" function and also tried it with both, the "play next clip" function and the "play all clips before menu" options enabled. I'm using Moviefactory 4 with windows XP

Had the same thing happen before with a dvd I made of multiple tv episodes clips, with "Play next clip checked". But had it work for other dvds made of multiple clips. The function seems really unreliable for me for some reason. Very frustrated.

Appreciate any help.

btw, Tried to do a search but 28 pages came up. Any links to other threads would be appreciated.

If you let the videos play normally (i.e. without hitting NEXT), do the videos play properly :?:

Nope.

They just play like posted above. Plays thru to the third (large main movie clip), then goes back to main menu, without playing the last 2 clips.

I only used the chapter skip on the remote to see if I could get to the last 2 clips. It does. If I use the remote to skip to the next clip before the main movie clip ends it will go on to play that clip and go on to the play the final clip, then return to menu.

thanks for the reply.

What are the properties of all your clips (resolution, framerate, bitrate, duration, mpeg1 or mpeg2, etc...)

Also, when you say "2 into clips" -- do you just mean they are regular titles (i.e. you didn't designate the First Clip as Intro Clip -- above the timeline)?

Is MovieFactory re-encoding your mpegs, or does it seem to be using them "asis" (without re-encoding)?

Is this a Single or Double layer disc, and what are you using to view the DVD -- DVD Player, software Player from computer, etc...

Not sure of the clip properties. Will check that when I get a chance.

Yeah, regular titles, not first play clips. Just added normally.

No, they're not being re-encoded. They're actually mpeg2 files downloaded from my replaytv. I use womble to edit and prep them as compliant mepg files and set properties to "do not reencode". The files are recorded on the replaytv as different resolutions (low, med quality). But the first 3 clips in the timeline that played through ok are mixed resolutions (med, low, med), so that doesn't seem to be the prob.

Single layer. Playing them in set top dvd player.

Burned another project with multiple clips and am having the same EXACT problem with the dvd. It will play the first 1 or 2 clips, then quit and go back to menu. Will only play the last titles if skipped using the remote. All clips were run through womble GOp fixer.

This really sucks. Think I've had it with Ulead, can anybody suggest another program I could try. Liked the "do not re-encode" function of this program (main reason for using it). Is there another dvd authoring program that has the same option. All others I've tried like to re-encode (nerovision) and take alot longer, but don't have the same prob.

Just tired of burning coasters.
thanks

You never did fully answer fully this question:
What are the properties of all your clips (resolution, framerate, bitrate, duration, mpeg1 or mpeg2, etc...)
Also, what are you doing to "prep them" :?: (just modifying header info?).

Did you try (Med, Med, Low) to see if the problem occurs when trying to change TWICE between "formats" :?:
