Failed to Build Preview Screen AND Video Capture Driver Prob

Post by movieman55 »

:!:
I have been using VideoStudio 9.0SE DVD since September. It has worked great through November. I tried in last week and it does not recognize my Panasonic PV-GS300, the capture device says "Unknown" yet I can hear the sound coming through my computer speakers but no picture. That is when I get "Failed to Build Preview Screen". And when I try something else, I get "Video Capture Driver (problem)".

I cannot locate the 9.0SE software as it was an offer of a download when I got the camera. Now I cannot reload it. Is there somewhere I can get the Driver because I think that is my problem.

Do you still have the downloaded file? If yes, reinstall VS9, if not, do you still have access to the site where you downloaded it from?

Personally, I have not heard of SE versions being downloadable from anywhere, they are usually bundled with hardware.

If you do not have the original download or access to it and cannot get help from the original vendor, the only possibility I can see is to upgrade to a new version of VS. Be aware though, if you do not have a serial number of the SE version, the upgrade will not install and you would be better advised to buy a full version instead.

You do not need any drivers, they are usually installed by WIN when you connect your camera. How do you connect? Does WIN recognize the cam when you plug it in? If it doesn't, check that aspect first. Maybe you have faulty hardware like cable etc.

Preview Graph Problem

Thanks. Now that I think of it, it came with a bundled package of which I cannot locate the disk. I do have the serial number registered, so that part is good.

Failed to build preview graph

Heinz,
I found my 9.0SE version. Uninstalled the old, installed the new. I have also tried capturing from my DV Camcorder with Windows Movie Maker and Motion DV Studio LE for DV and both work fine. It seems to be only a problem with ULEAD now. I connect via a 2.0 USB. As I said before, this worked fine before. I operate on Windows XP Professional, 1.7mhz with 30G of space available for small videos I am making. THe only updates that occured since the last time I used ULEAD 9.0 was when I installed IPOD. That required me to update my quicktime program. Any further suggestions? I am willing to upgrade to 10+ but given that I cannot get 9.0SE to build the preview graph, I am concerned I would be wasting $'s.

What version of QuickTime, 7? If so you need to uninstall it and reinstall QuickTime 6. There have been reports of QT-7 posing problems. However this may pose problems for your Ipod.
