(After much work last night I was finally able to capture in VideoStudio 9).
Now.... I am using VideoExpress to connect my Sony Handycam (dinosaur) to my laptop. I start VideoStudio Editor and go to Capture tab. II start playing the video on the Handycam and in the preview pane I can see and HEAR the video. The minute that I click "Capture" the sound is gone. I click "Stop Capture" and the audio is back. Captured video (when it's replayed) doesn't have sound either.
Video but no audio

Do you, by any chance, have the Disable Audio Preview (or something like that) enabled? You will find that in the Capture window.

Check that you have selected the correct audio input source in the Windows Volume Control Recording Panel.
