I have a somewhat lengthy thread with issues I have had with my new Samsung VR330 at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?p=99315 but hoping maybe the subject will catch someone's attention out there that has done the same thing with a Samsung. In a nutshell, when I import the Samsung created DVD files into MF4 or 5, it inflates the file size because they aren't 100% DVD compliant (as far as MF is concerned). I could tell it fit to DVD or set the bit rates manually but I shouldn't have to because the Samsung has recorded the shows to fit. In the media properties, it says the format is MPEG-2.
On the suggestion of another user, I bought a Panasonic DVD recorder (still have the Samsung though) and it does import with the correct project size and the media properties says NTSC DVD (instead of MPEG-2). Problem is the Samsung has much better options than the Panasonic, like recording in VR, can auto track VCR tapes much much faster when recording them to DVD, and the recording system is much easier to use.
So if anyone with a Samsung has any input, suggestions, etc, I would like to hear them.
Anyone importing DVD files from Samsung DVD Recorder?
Panasonic uses "DVD-RAM" to record in the -VR mode. Then you can edit the video while in the recorder (trim/cut etc). So to get the video into a computer your dvd reader needs to be able to read dvd-ram disks.Problem is the Samsung has much better options than the Panasonic, like recording in VR,
Using a DVD-RW disk in a panasonic recorder gets written in the Dvd-Video Mode which is non-editable (in the recorder).
In the Samsung recorder what are the choices to record in? HQ SD quality?
Is there a 1 1/2 hour setting which would be in between HQ & SD or can you manually set the recording settings.

Thanks for the clarification on the Panasonic and VR. I have DVD-RW's that I use (and work with VR on the Samsung).
The Samsung has XP, SP, LP, and EP which are 1, 2, 4, and 6 or 8 hour settings. I have tried different length recordings including a 1, 2, and 3:11 hour recordings and all do the same in MF as far as project size estimations being wrong.
