What has happened to the Ulead web site?

Post by jparnold »

Recently I noticed that there doesn't seem to be an easy way to navigate to the Ulead User to User Web Board Forum Index and then navigate to the VideoStudio section (ie the section where this posting is). In fact the only way I seem to have to get there is to click on a link from an email message informing me that I have had a reply to a posting and then clicking on VideoStudio to get 'back' to the index.
I have been using this 'feature' of Ulead's web site for over 2 years but only recently have I encountered this problem.
THe only way of being able to view the Ulead Products Menu (which then allows access to the various products boards is to LOGIN.

This could be a security issue (by Ulead) but surely it makes it difficult for the 'newcomer' to read existing postings.

Originally I stumbled across the board and noticed that members could post questions on problems. Without seeing this board I may have just gone elsewhere.

What has happened?

I am not sure I understand. Surely you can Bookmark the following URL and call it Ulead Web Board or something http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/index.php

This sets out all the various forums, with VS essentially at the top.

Moreover, within each forum itself, up above the posts, to the right of the New Topic and Post Reply buttons, there is a hyperlink which will take you direct to the Forum index as above, and that appears above each thread.

You don't have to be a member or log-in to get on to the Board. But you have to register within the Board to actually make a posting yourself.

Or do you mean something else?

Hi Ken,
Shut down ALL sessions using web browers and then open your web browser and enter in the url line http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/index.php
(you MUST not have another session open with your web browser 'connected' to the Ulead web site - as if you have just started your PC). This also happens if you open the Ulead web site (www.ulead.com), select Support > Support Forum then select Web Board (without being at the VideoStudio board in another session).
You will get a menu displayed with ONLY General Discussion and Product Tutorials. You will NOT have the Ulead Products menu displayed (from where you can select the VideoStudio board). Once you then LOGIN the Ulead Products menu will be displayed.

I have done this over and over thinking that I am doing something wrong but it always does the SAME thing.

Let me know how you get on.

Yeah,, I'm getting it here as well. I have the url Ken posted as my bookmark, but unless I log in, the only forums I can see are General Discussion and Product Tutorials. Once I log in though, I can see all the Ulead and Intervideo product forums. Something has changed in the last couple of days since the Intervideo portions of the board were introduced.

I see what you mean. I couldn't get your method to work at first in Firefox. Even rebooting my computer and starting the browser off afresh, I still got the full Board index, including Video Studio. But going to the Ulead site and going through the support process, it behaved as you described.

It did also behaved that way straight off in Internet Explorer 7 in both the browser and the Ulead site.

Then I realised I had firefox set to log-me in automatically each time. So I logged out. And then the Board appeared as you suggested it would, with a truncated index. When I logged back in, it was fine.

So yes, something has obviously changed. Hopefully some of the moderators will now take this up with Ulead.

For what it's worth, Board Admin has now acknowledged that it has made these changes quite deliberately. I have asked if there is any reason for locking out people who have not registered and logged on from even being able to know there are individual product forums, let alone read threads as they could under the previous arrangement.

I have suggested that they consider at least amending the Ulead website Support > Support Forums page to indicate that there are individual forums for specific products, but that users have to register then log-in to participate. Otherwise, completely new users won't even know that these specific forums exist. This will lose a lot of potential good will towards the products in the future. (Not to mention, make such new users feel abandoned if they can't, as is often -- too often -- the case, get a response from Tech Support...

I will let you know if I get any response.

I would prefer that it went back to the way it was before where a non member can VIEW all of the forums but can only post after logging in.

I see you are trying to get your userid locked before 4000?
This my understanding of it.
I have been proven wrong on several occasions in my life. It's not going to improve.

Thanks Ken
I really do think that people new to the web board and prospective members should be given the opportunity to at least be aware of these boards and so agree wholeheartedly with what you said.

Maybe if they (Ulead) wish to retain the current situation then there should be a notice displayed inviting new people to register so that they can then view these boards otherwise (as I mentioned before) they will not be aware of what they can see as a (new) member.

Hi guy's,

further to this discussion, I have logged on to the same ULR for this user board but get 2 different web page layout's, how's this possible?? I have bmp's of each page with the same address but not sure how to post them so that you can take a look.

Now that Intervideo are on the user board, does anyone know how WinDVD Creator 3 Platinum compares with VS10?

How does an apple compare to a pear? A true comparison, IMHO, should be between DVD MovieFactory5+ and WinDVD Creator.

You can get several different layouts, just try clicking on a Forum Title. It will change the layout to display that forum only. Clicking on the titleUlead User to User Web Board Forum Index will show all forums.

Examples:
Product Tutorials

Ulead Products

General Discussion

Some comparisons here:

However I do not think some points on Ulead VS & DVDMF in the review are fair....

I agree H.T. doesn't seem to be a fair or accurate review, or comparison.
