HC3 Capture - was great now garbage
I have been using the Sony HC3 with VS10+ for about 8 months very successfully from initial HD capture to final DVD output. Very few problems once I was up and running. Today, I tried to capture HD video from ski trip and it is pixelated beyond recognition, garbled, etc....useless. I've made two changes to my system since the last project and wondering if anyone has heard of either causing a problem. It is not the tape, see below.
1. Changed anti virus from AVG to Avast, both free versions. I do not believe this to be the problem.
2. Had to uninstall Windows Media Player 11 as it had a conflict with my wife's ZEN Vision:M mp3 player. I am thinking this took some information along with it that it shouldn't have?!
What I've done now is to uninstall and reinstall VS10+. Didn't help. In searching the forums further someone suggested capturing in MF5. That is working successfully as I write this, but still wondering why I cannot capture in VS10+ (successfully) anymore and will I have further problems editing and burning. Any thoughts are welcome.

Sorry, I didn't see your post slide through...
I also installed WMF 11 but have not tried to capture HDV, since. BTW, it is much better at HD playback.
But your pixelation symptom is strange because capturing is simply a copying process. No encoding is taking place. Double check the firewire cable. Also, check the touch screen menus in the HC3, which might be set to downconvert the video to DV.
You could also try a system restore, to a time/date when things worked.
BTW, how cold was it on the ski slopes? Could low temperature have messed up the recording?

Good suggestions, but....
Thanks for the suggestions. I even tried changing from a firewire port on the motherboard to a PCI card port with the same results. They are all valid suggestions except that moments later (after finding another thread) I was able to capture the video on to my computer with Movie Factory 5 with no problems. After a successful capture, I went back to VS10+ and captured garbage again. It's clearly something with VS but for the life of me I don't know what?! I also did a complete remove and reinstall, so I think something else is missing somewhere......hence I think WMF had something to do with it.
With regard to WMF11, VS10+ worked great with it installed. I also agree that it is much better at HD content playback than it was, but I still love Media Player Classic. I believe that taking WMF 11 off of the computer is where something got goofed up. I'm hesitant to install WMF 11 again but I don't think I will have any other choice but to try it and see.

I have Movie Factory 5, Media Studio 8 and Video Studio 9/10+ installed on my computer and haven't had the first problem capturing HD from my HC1.
John had a problem of not being able to capture from his HC1 right after he installed VS10+, I think he had a problem with a 3d party driver.
Do you have any other capture drivers installed? If so try removing them and see if that fixes the problem.

VS10+ HD capturing.
I have both VS10+ and MovieFactory 5 installed and I can only capture HD from my Canon HV10 with MovieFactory. VS10+ either produces one second files or locks up. So I capture in MovieMaker and edit in VS10,as many others seem to do.
I also cannot write HD back to the HV10. The problems are identical to
those reported with the Sony HD camera.

Just to confirm I caputed some HD video with Ulead VS10+,MF5 and MS8.
The programs capture fine and one thing I found out is that MF5 captures are much smoother than the other two programs, its like capturing SD video, no hesitations and jerks. I didn't pay any attention as to how the captures performed before, now I will capture my HD video with MF5.

I have an ATI All In Wonder Pro (old capture card) and a Hauppauge analogue capture cards install and don't have any problems with those capture modules. The Hauppauge card only works with MF5, because it is the only Ulead Program that supports it.
I can switch back and forth usually with no problems.
