It looks like it is a Vista-only patch.

I will wait a while to let them work out the bugs before I convert to Vista.

I installed the SP (with today's date), but it did not update my version number (still ends with 0110.2 Plus)

John:
Hitchen is right, scroll down a get the new pack.

I patched mine with no change in version number, however the patch is 11MB and the old service pack (8MB) is gone.

I don't know what the difference is, if any but will have to use it to see.

My first reaction is "uh oh...!!!" And my mind goes back to the incredible mess with updates to VS8. There were never any explanations of what had been done with several different versions of the same patch file. Yet depending on the version and/or the order in which updates were added, they created more problems for users than they solved!!!

I haven't applied SP1. Or rather, I did, but it started causing a few little inexplicable problems. So I did a full uninstall/reinstall of VS10+ as I did not have the problems in the first place that the SP was meant to solve. If it ain't broke, etc...

Guess I will wait till I have such a problem before installing the latest version of the SP!

Believe you're right Ken - deinstall SP1

Post by Down under Videographer »

Hi Ken, I just joined this morning after installing SP1 from Jan 15. No difference that I could see, still can't burn!

I'm taking your advice this evening; complete deinstall and reinstall of just Video Studio 10 without the SP1 patch. Hopefully I get some joy (for a change!).

AOK on the update.

BTW, I have not installed any of the VS patches and probably will not, unless I really need them. Vanilla 10+ works fine with everything that I have thrown at it.

I installed SP1 to test the following bullet point -- and on a Core Duo processor (laptop), I was impressed with the performance boost :)
Optimization for Intel® Core™ 2 Duo CPU
VideoStudio 10 Plus is now optimized for Intel® Core™ Duo 2 and Core™ 2 Extreme processors. With the new processors, you can experience up to 50% faster video transcoding and rendering of video projects.

I have sent an email off to Ulead to ask why the date has been changed.

Here is the reply from Ulead:
We replace mpgout.004 in SP1.
In the old SP1, when the user Capture MPEG from DVCam, there are many block noise. This new release will fix this bug.

That adds some clarity to the change. However I would think that the updated SP1 should have been released as SP1.01 or at least they stated on the site the reasoning for this.

One thing that most software companies do is post a version history, so that users know why and what has been addressed and corrected. Here's an example of one, that dates back to the original release:

Swishmax Version History.
