Version sold in England different from version sold in USA?

Post by kapaa-papa »

I searched the VS forum but not seeing this question posted, maybe I'm not using the right key words like "purchase version england" is coming up with everything but.

A sales rep our company deals with said if I wanted he would send me his copy of VideoStudio 10, I guess he purchased something much higher end more like the software a TV station uses... sounds like someone is getting paid too much.

Anyway, I'm interested and he said it will work on windows but I'm worried there might be something different between what is sold in the US as to that in England. For example, I see a lot of stuff in the forum about PAL vs NTSF.

When you install VS, you select if you would use PAL or NTSC, or the country where you live. Since you are located here in the US, then you would select NTSC.

As far as England vs US both are English Language versions of VS. There are several languages available of course. Now as far as a higher-end version of VS10 or VS10+ for Television Studios, not that I'm aware of. VS 10 is just that. The only higher-end Intervideo / Ulead program would be MediaStudio Pro.

So - is your sales rep based in England then ?? - what makes you think there is any difference between the English version for the two countries ??

As far as I can tell from all the postings and comments on these forums there is no difference at all in a version of VideoStudio 10+ sold here in England and one sold in the USA - perhaps a little later when Ken Berry comes on line he can confirm/deny what he thinks about the "Australian" version

No I think there is only one standard English language version. When I install VS10+ (or any Ulead product for that matter), I always get the standard installation choice of first choosing your country and/or indicating your TV system. (I do both to make sure!!)

Some of you will recall that I had considerable problems early in the piece with a handful of the transitions which for some odd reason refused to appear. This led me at the time to conclude that I must indeed have some substantively different version of VS, even though everything else seemed to be there and functioned perfectly. But then I found quite a number of other people from varied parts of the world had exactly the same problem, so I knew it could not be that.

(Curiously enough, when I uninstalled VS10+ to get rid of SP1, and then reinstalled, I actually got the missing transitions. I have no idea why, but am grateful... So at least SP1 gave me this unexpected - though undoubtedly unintended by Ulead - bonus!! :lol: )

There is only one English version of VideoStudio.
What is different is that different parts of the globe have different TV formats
Europe = PAL
USA = NTSC

Therefore you would (normally) create your videos in the format for your country. When you install VideoStudio you are simply setting the defaults to the appropriate format.

There is nothing to prevent a European User creating a NTSC Video with his copy of VideoStudio, and nothing to prevent a USA user from creating a PAL video with his copy of VideoStudio. You just have to alter the settings beforehand.

Some US apps only have the NTSC option, whereas the UK versions of the same app has the option of both.
Not sure how many now, but earlier versions of pinnacle where like this.

Just in case you assume everyone is as good as Ulead :)

Unlike some other competitors, Ulead only made 1 English version for all English users on the global. And yes you can create NTSC / PAL video in the same UVS if you wanted.

Here is a poser:

If you selected the incorrect format (PAL) upon installation, then created a VSP file, can that file be converted back to the correct format (NTSC) for your country?

If so, how?

Yes, I'm a newb.

You can't actually convert that file back to NTSC - what you can do is create a new file with the NTSC properties.

Import your .vsp to the timeline - then go to "Share >> Create Video File" and select the NTSC option of your choice - then UVS will create a new file for you with NTSC properties.
