splitting avi files

I am capturing from my DV8 camera through firewire using video capture. In the "scan & capture" mode, its suppose to split the files at scene changes. It doesn't always catch the changes. Is there a way to bring the large avi files into Editor and just split the file into smaller segments and save it out as separate avi files?

Yep! Go to Split by Scene (p. 81 of manual) by, e.g., right clicking on timeline.
