Kodak mov. files

Post by JohnHH3 »

Good Morning,

I'm brand new at video editing, so you'll have to excuse my ignorance. I've just installed VideoStudio 10 Plus on my laptop; installation went fine. What I'm trying to do is take the video clips from my Kodak camera and send them in e-mails. I went into Movie Wizard and inserted the clip; it plays fine. The problem is with the second step, after adding a template, saving, setting duration, ect., when I go to view the clip it looks like it gets stuck on the first frame. I then finish the clip, create a video file and send it in an e-mail to be viewed in Windows Media Player. The clip template plays fine, but the video clip is still stuck on the first frame. I've read that there is a Kodak mov. patch, but I'm unsure if this is the fix (I have not downloaded the patch yet). I must be doing something wrong in the second step. Does anyone have the answer?

Still learning. John

Why don't you try installing the patch and see if that fixes it. :?

Good Morning,

Thanks Jeff and Steve for your quick replies. I downloaded the Kodak MOV Patch, but I could not get it to open and could not get it into the directory. I've saved it in the Ulead Folder. I just tried again to use the Movie Wizard with a MOV file, but still no luck. I did try two of the sample files from the library and both of them worked perfectly, so I must assume it is the MOV file. I looked at the properties of the Kodak file and it says it is a QuickTime Movie. VideoStudio 10 Plus has no problem playing the file, it just can't capture it. Maybe if I can get the Patch installed, all will be corrected? The features on the side of the packaging says VideoStudio supports the QuickTime format.

Thanks for all your help. Still learning. John

Hi John

I am a little confused here.

If you have a Mov file in the camera, you should be able to copy/ transfer the file to your pc using your cameras software.

You should be able to insert the file to Video Studio using the Insert Video function.
You should not need to use the capture process.

You are using the Movie Wizard, this creates a project using your file and set templates. The completed work being inserted into the editing timeline for further editing/rendering.. You do not need to use the Movie Wizard but can go direct to the editor if you wish.

Use the Video Editor, insert the mov file using the Insert Video option.
With the Mov in the timeline does it play ok in both project and clip modes.

Now

Share-Create Video File ¡VWhat options did you use to make the new video file.??

Good Morning,

Hi Trevor, thanks for your reply. I guess I got confused with the lingo; capture was the wrong word to use. However, I have more information to give you. I went into Video Editor and inserted the QuickTime clip into the timeline. If you select Play, the clip works fine. If you select Clip, the clip works fine. But, if you select Project, the clip gets hung up on the first frame.

I then went to Share-Create Video File and created a WMV file. I also created a Web Share file; high quality. Unfortunately, when I used Windows Media Player and viewed both clips, both clips got hung up on the first frame.

I'm sure there's a solution. Still learning. John

PS--I e-mailed tech support about the problem (I should hear from them soon), but, I would still like to have everybody's ideas on this frustrating issue. Thanks

Hi John

Did you manage to install the patch mentioned earlier by Steve.
The file (uvqt.vio) merely overwrites the existing file.
It seems to work for some users.

I managed to play Mov files in project mode by uninstalling QT 7 and installing QT 6

Its worth a go

Read this earlier post.
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... ght=#98754

I have e-mailed tech support over a week ago re mov files, got the patch Steve mentioned, didn't work. You get a message asking if this solved your problem, i ticked no, dont think i will hear anything else. shame.

It doesn't matter to me i don't use Mov files, but there is a problem for some users regarding QT files and VS

Again try replacing QT 7 with QT 6

Regards

Hi John,

Can you let us know the file properties of the MOV file you see in UVS 10 Plus?

If the MOV patch still not work, I would suggest you to use some file converter as a workaround to convert the MOV file to some other file format such as uncompressed AVI or MPEG so you can use it without issues in UVS.

And remember to include the file properties in the tech support form you sent to Ulead so they can investigate the issue.

Hope this helps.

John,

I also have a Kodak camera, Easyshare P880. Have you tried installing Kodak's Camera Transfer portion of the Easyshare program? Most of Kodak's digital still cameras use the MJPEG codec. Before Ulead released the Kodak MOV patch, I was able to successfully use a MOV file in VS10+.

When you are in project mode, what is the duration shown on the right hand side? Move the play head slider all the way to the left (I guess it's there already since the first frame shows), click on the left "[" bracket. Now, click on the play head and hold the mouse button down, move the play head all the way over to the right, you must be in project mode for this, not clip, click the right "]" bracket. Now, the whole project time line should be selected to preview (red line above it). Click on play under the preview window. What happens?

Kodak MOV Files

Post by JohnHH3 »

Good morning,

OK, I've gotten a reply back from tech support and they've given me the Kodak MOV Patch. Let me thank you all for your support.

Heinz. I tried the clip in Project mode; the time is 23 seconds; I moved the Play head and used the brackets; although the timeline moves, the clip still stays stuck on the first frame.

Ron. Yes, I've loaded the software that came with the camera and it works fine.

H.T. If I can't get the Patch to work. I'll use another file converter as a workaround. What do you think of River Past Video Cleaner?

Trevor. Your idea makes sense. The first thing I did after I loaded VideoStudio was to update the QuickTime Player to 7.1.3. If I uninstall QT7, do you recommend I use the QT uninstaller in All Programs or should I go to Add/Remove Programs? Can I install QT6 from the VideoStudio disc?

Now, for the most important question! How do I install the Kodak MOV Patch? The file has three buttons: Find, Save and Cancel. I am used to Run, Save and Cancel. Of course, if it had a Run button it would automatically install. I've clicked Save, but I can only put it in a folder. Do I need to use the Run Command on the Start Menu? This must be elementary for an experienced user, but I need detailed instructions. I need to install the file in C:\Programs Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 10.0\VIO

Evidently, when I installed QT7, it removed a component that was in the VideoStudio QT6. Well, I hope I haven't bored everybody to tears. Help me find out how to install the Kodak MOV Patch. Thanks!

This is from the link that Steve posted earlier:

Tech support has given me a patch so that my MOV files will be correctly encoded. I don't know why this has not been discovered before, at least, from the posts that I have seen. I have used this patch for VS8 & also used it on VS10 & both have worked successfully. It successfully encodes to MPEG 2, although, I have not yet burnt a DVD with it (i.e. time constraints). For anyone else interested, here is the response I received (only one day wait) from Ulead tech Support...

[The program did not correctly encode your MOV files from your digital camera.
Please download the following patch and save it to "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 8.0\VIO" directory.

(Hint - Change 8.0 to your version number)

ftp://userdl:guest@ftpph.ulead.com/uvqt.vio

Make sure VideoStudio is not running when applying the patch. ]

Hi John

Ok one step at a time.

The Mov patch downloaded from ulead is a file called-------- uvqt.vio ------ it is 112 Kb. Is this the file you have downloaded???

This file should replaces the existing file in C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 10\VIO which is 148 Kb.

Ok first copy the existing file uvqt.vio, just in case you wish to use the original.
To do this right click the file uvqt.vio select copy, right click anywhere in the folder and select paste. A file ¡¥Copy of uvqt.vio¡¦ should be placed in the folder.

Now copy the downloaded file and paste to the Vio folder, you should be prompted to replace the original file, say yes or ok.

Does that Help
