Fading visual, not sound?

Post by gbug »

I am making a movie made up of various clips from a party. Each clip is of a segment of the party, which i have since given names/lables. What i want to do is have a black background with the name of the segment, and while that title is playing (around 5 secs) i want to be able to hear the sound from the upcoming clip, and then as the title fades away, the visual from the clip fades in. I can work out how to fade in, but this only fades the sound in, not the visual. Hopefully someone can set me on the right path! Ive searched around here and tried out many different thing with Video Studio 10, with not much luck.
Cheers!

H Gbug, welcome to the forums..

What you are attempting to do is known as a J or L Cut. If so have a look at the tutorial for Creating J and L Cuts found here:

It's done with VS9, but the method is the same..

Fantastic, thanks for that. Only problem now is that when i add in a crossfade transition to fade from the title to the video, im pushing the video out whcih means the audio is out of sync. Im looking around on the forums now, but is there anything you can recomend?

You need to use the Ripple Editing. Look at page 64 of the manual to learn about it..
