Why does Ulead have two video editing software packages??

Post by kendonald »

Hi

I would like to get into digital video editing. I am now confused as people on this forum speak about media studio and video plus (which i was thinking about buying). I tried to look at the Ulead website but can not fond a comparison of the two so can anyone point me to one or explain the difference to me.

Although I am new to vodeo editing I am expert in general PC use and in spite of this there are those who sy the medistudio does not require a degree in rocket science to use

From the freezing north of UK

Cheers

VideoStudio is an entry level video editing package for the video enthusiast/hobbyist.

MediaStudioPro is a much more advanced semi-professional editing suite.

Depending on what you want to get out of it, you will have to judge if VS suffices or MSP is more your thing. VS is relatively easy to come to grips with while MSP requires a lot more understanding. Both will get your camcorder video edited and put out to DVD.

Just like Heinz stated, Video Studio is the entry level version. I reccomend starting out at that level. I am about intermediate, still a noobie in a lot of respects, but, I know enough to make a mess out of a project.

I have learned a lot from the people here, and am very gratefull for that. Soon, I'll be able to repay that by contributing what I have learned. My suggestion is to be patient, do searches, (my opinion of the web board is it's antiquated, there's better out there, ahem _joomla_)

One of the coolest things I learned is that, if you do get VideoStudio and upgrade it to Media Studio, what you learn in VS also applies to MS... sort of, some you have to throw out the window, but, for the most part, they "connect" in an information way.

I also use Cool 3d Production Studio, and the windows and interface majicaly appear the same. Again, it's a totally different application, but, majicaly works with the video editor.

As a starting side note, never depend on one application for video editing. I use most of the Ulead products, but also, other applications that may do specific things, not only video editing, but, audio, and DVD authoring.

Hint: Don't over look the MS Moviemaker app that comes with your OS..

Why does Toyota have 13 different vehicles from the Aygo to the Dyna, each with many different variants? Because one doesn't fit everyone's needs.

Hi - If you are brand new to video editing, I'd advise you to start with VideoStudio. Its layout is ideal for a newcomer and it is powerful: you can apply many effects easily. As I was new to video editing, I found that working with VS was great fun. Like all these things it takes a little time to get the hang of things but I was able to make some very good videos within no time at all.

That's how I started for the first year or two, then upgraded to MediaStudio. I was very happy with VS but needed more possibilities as I wanted to do some broader video editing for business reasons.

VS was also really useful training before working with MSP (which may seem more complicated to a newcomer because it has many more possibilities above VS due to its flexibility).
Thanks & regards.
