Pixelized in preview window? normal?

Post by JaggerWolf »

It seems when I capture video and play it back in the preview window it almost looks pixeled in spots? Is this normal? I am capturing in mpeg format, I noticed if I capture in .wmv format it veiws just fine in the preview window.

Any ideas, will it look this way on dvd?

Thanks

Only a suggestion but if your PC is not fast enough then it will have problems converting to MPEG on the 'fly' while capturing. Could also be a problem if you try and capture via USB cable.
I always capture in 'native' AVI format and have no problems using a P4 2.4Ghz processor.
Are you capturing via Firewire? What is your PC processor?

I have a 2.4g duel core processor. The preview window is "blocky" with small flickering blocks. I have exported the video clip to play on another player and it looks just like it did in the preview window. I thought maybe it was just because of the interlacing and that it would be fine when viewed on a television but I havent tested that. I tried capturing using every means, firewire, composite, usb - all had the same outcome.

I did try capturing using my ATI mutlimedia centers digital vcr and it captured the video fine with no problems.

JaggerWolf..the short answer to your question is No..it is not normal to see the pixelation and blocks in the preview window. That has happened to me when I connect my camcorder and push the Capture Button..
and the UVS10 program does not recognize what it is captureing properly. At times it thinks it has a DVD connected to it...So..I change it manually to DV, then the capture continues correctly. So, please check when you
capture your video from your camcorder, what the program thinks it is capturing..

You don't actually tell us what sort of video you are capturing (digital? analogue?) or what devices are involved (exact type of video camera? internal capture card? external capture device?)

It would also be useful if you could post the full properties of your captured files (within VS, right click on one and write down the properties).

And what do you want to produce (DVD, web video, ...?)
