V10-Change Field Order Freezes at 50%

Post by toolmanfl »

Morning. I recently reformatted and restored my HP Pavillion m7557c, processor AMD Althon 64X2 dual core 4400+, Nvida Geforce 7500 LE, 1gig Ram, 270 gig HD with 249 gig of free space.

I've reinstalled V10 and when I try to capture video thru the TV Tuner card (Nvidea Geforce 7500 LE) or with with the Sony HDV camcorder the system freezes when it gets to the screen stating "Change Field Order, "Upper Field First" The progress bar gets to 50% then it freezes. It worked when I first bought the PC back in July/August 2006. Now since the reformat/restore it won't. I've installed all the necessary V10 patches that apply to me. I'm stumped.

Thank you.

Toolmanfl,
If you have Sony HDR-HC1 or HC3, it records video in high definition. You should not be changing field order during capture. Read the High Definition Tutorial - http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=13872

If you are truly capturing high def, you should not have any options to change field order when capturing. Open the HC1's touch screen menu and check the following:
"REC FORMAT" = HDV 1080i
"I.LINK CONV" = OFF

One of these is probably set wrong.

I hit "escaped" when I tried to capture from my TV Tuner Card. I realized that under File\Preferences I changed the Default Field Order to "Frame Based." I don't recall having to do this back in July/August. But that seemed to remedy the automatically changing field order.

Now when I try to capture video, from the TV Tuner card with VS10, I noticed that the capture plug-ins Ulead DirectShow and Ulead DSW MPEG will start to capture. When I click on Stop Capture the system freezes and I have to Control Alt to end the program. The Capture Plug-ins: Windows Media Format and MPEG4 work fine. I'm able to start and stop capture then switch to edit mode.

Is there some special setting in preferences to be able to capture the footage as AVI and MPEG? When attempting to capture the Source Box states: Conexant Falcom Video Capture.

Sorry to sound so ignorant, but when I originally installed VS10 back in July/August I didn't have to tweak anything, at least form what I can recall.

Thanks!

I seem to recall relatively recently that the Conexant Falcon chipset is problematic with Video Studio. You might want to do a search on the Board for it. Hauppage is another card which cannot be 'read' properly by VS10.

But the usual remedy for cards like this is to use the software that comes with them to capture. I had a Winfast analogue TV/capture card and now have an even better Winfast digital TV card. In both cases, I found that the inbuilt software with them did a trouble-free job of capturing high quality and DVD-compatible mpeg-2. I would then simply open VS after capture was complete, insert the captured files, edit (modestly), and burn.

I also found that the Winfast software gave me a little more flexibility in capture settings than Video Studio.

And before you say "well it should work with VS" -- yes, that is probably the case, though in some cases the card manufacturers are the ones who refuse to share their technology with Ulead so that VS can be adjusted to work with the cards.

And in addition, don't worry that you are using two programs instead of one. Many of us here use one program to capture, VS to edit, audio editors to add voice-overs and background music, and yet another program to author and burn. In other words, we use whichever tool we think does the best job for a specific task. And I think you will find that may be the case with the software which came with the card...

Toolmanfl,
If you are capturing HDV, as you said in your first post, then you have to capture using a firewire connection directly to the computer. Do not use any other capture cards. Period.
