Problem with Project as to Clip
I bought Ulead VideoStudio 10 2 weeks ago for the sole purpose of making DVD's for myself using the clip movie clips i caught on my digital camera.
I have these .mov clips saved on my PC and I can add them to the programe in order, and do a few little extra bits.
But my problem is this...............
When i have clips in the video editor, i can play them as a clip adn i see and hear it fine, BUT when i play it as a project or create a DVD i see the picture but i get no sound, no wait i do get sound it's like garbled scrambled noise. I have no idea why this is doing this.
Someone please help before i wreck the PC

If you can afford to buy Premiere Pro -- much less learn how to use it (it has an ENORMOUS learning curve)
-- then you could certainly afford to buy a proper video camera...
Premiere Pro also has this habit of preferring input from DV video format, and DV Type 2 at that. Not sure what it would think of MOV files...
That being said, you didn't tell us the exact format used by your .MOV files. Right click on one within Video Studio, and tell us all of its properties.
You see .MOV is (like .AVI) simply a carrier or 'wrapper' format. Some digital still cameras use the MJPEG codec, though the files carry the .MOV extension. Other cameras use other codecs, though all have the .MOV extension. And I am not sure that the Patch Black Lab has pointed you to covers each and every one.
Often, it is a question of not having the correct codec installed on your computer. That codec is usually on the installation disc which would have come with your camera.

RE : Problem with Project as to Clip
They are Quicktime Movie files, taken from my Panasonic DMC-FZ7 Digital Camera. I use this as I only need to record 5 minutes a week, thats why i dont bring the Sony Digital Camcorder.
I was hoping to patch together the weeks of movie files inot a DVD with a menu, but like i say the Stooooooooooopid programe keeps giving me the noise instead of the talking that went along with the movie.
This cant be that hard now can it???
(well it is for me)

Ah -- a Lumix. Nice camera.
But at least we are narrowing things down. QT uses a couple of mpeg-4 formats, but with a quick Google search, I have been unable to find out which one is used in your model. I begin to have the horrible suspicion though that, being such a relatively recent camera, yours might actually use the excellent quality, but difficult H.264 codec. I haven't yet seen on this Board one user with video using that codec who has had success.
But when you right click on one of the files, does it give you more detailed information about the properties, other than it is just QT? Or does the camera manual contain any specifics?
One option could be to first convert the QT to DVD-compatible mpeg-2 using a freeware program called SUPER which you can download from http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html

Hi Dave
Update
I have just re-installed QT 6 and am now able to play my Mov file.
I have problems running Video Studio with QT-I-Tunes.
Not everyone suffers, computers are different, different operating systems, different software installed.
Different conflicts makes it difficult to find a definite solution.
I experienced crashes and freezes using the trial version VS 10, until I installed QT6.
Now using the full version I have problems with playback using QT7.
For me the fix is to use QT 6
If this works for you then that¡¦s great, No promises
Regards
Trevor

Re :problem..........
Hi Trevor,
The problem i have is not with quicktime or with the movies, they all play fine.
The problem I have is when i try make a project with Ulead, the clips play fine in Ulead, but when i plat it as a project i get all the static noise.
I can also play the .mov files independantly with quicktime v7 no problems.
Any ideas????

MOV files
I had the same problem as I also have a Lumix and use VS10 to edit video files. Mine worked really well until I upgraded Quicktime to version 7.1 and then I had garbled sound and jerky pictures. I re-installed version 7.0 that came with VS10 and now it works perfectly when you play back with project mode or render out to whatever format. Very strange that this should be so.
I discovered the problem was with Quicktime when I loaded up VS8 which I still had on my system. It had exactly the same problem when playing back using project mode, so I knew it must be something to do with Quicktime.
I would still like to know why Quicktime 7.1 causes this problem. Does anyone know?
Regards
Rob

What Trevor has pointed out and illustrated is that there is a conflict with VS, and QT 7, when trying to edit *.MOV files. Using the older QT6 seems to solve that problem. I don't believe he was indicating that you have a problem with QT7 itself....

Hi
Interesting Rob
I have 7.0.3 installed and have problems.
I am not sure that it is just the version, but may be the type of compressor that is used on the Mov file. The operating system, I just don¡¦t know.
I have just looked at QT and been asked to up date to v 7.1 (may be I will, just to see)
As I said I don¡¦t use it.
The only reason I view QT or use Mov files is for this forum.
What I do know is if I install QT 6 it seems to work.
I have only two Mov files anyway, so I am a bit limited into testing my system.
Send one of your Mov files and I will try to play.
Its just not going to be easy.
And yes i have tried the fix from tech support, just waiting for their next reply.
Regards
Trevor

Now let me throw this into the pot to stir..
The other day when I was having problems with Importing DVD/DVD-R in VS10+, I done a complete reinstall of VS9, VS10+ and others. I left VS8 alone as it was working fine. I also done a repair on DMF4DC.
Well before this happened I was using the older version (6.5) of QT. When I install VS10+ it installs the newer version of Q.T. (7.x). Seeing this I thought great, now I'll have to uninstall the 7.x version and reinstall the 6.5. So far I have left the 7.x version installed and have not had any problems. I can play my *.MOV files (made with my Kodak), and have had no other issues.
So I'm mystified as to what is really causing these problems. I know the *MOV patch specifically states "Kodak", so it may be very limited in what it can fix..
