New User: Differences among the downloaded files?
I used the trial version (uvs10_tbyb_(e)_na.exe; 138,288 kb), then just purchased the actual version. There are several files to download (which I have done), and I can't find documentation on any of them:
-- vs10_contentpack_e.exe (304,628 Kb): I ran this and it installed something but (i) I can't find any new applications on my computer, (ii), if it's an update of the original trial version I was using, then I can't tell what's new and different about the updated version (hey, it's double the size, so there must be somthing different) and (iii) it gave me no indication it was updating anything. What is this file/program?
-- vs10_tbyb_e_na.exe (138,288 Kb): I ran this, but given that its exactly the same size as the trial version, and it's almost the same name and it asked me if I wanted to uninstall, I am assuming it's just the original version I already have on my computer.
-- vs10_bonus: when I double click on this icon (which I saved to a folder), it says it is not an application. What the heck is it, and how do I use it?
Is there any documentation on these things?
Thanks in advance,
Mark

no where in all of that do I see any reference to you downloading and installing the FULL programme - did you uninstall the trial version first before you started the full install, if you ran the content pack with only the trial version installed I am surprised you did not get an error message - but it will not add anything to a tbyb version.
Sounds as though you really need to start again - doing a full uninstall of everything you have now and starting again with the full version install first.
This should help you with a clean re-install :-

Sort of Worked
Thanks: The new VideoStudio seems to working and updated with the "plus" features, however, I still don't have any idea what "vs10_bonus.exe" is as it doesn't run as an application ("not a valid Win32 application") and it doesn't seem to be used or accessible from any of the VideoStudio programs. Any idea what this is? It is about 60MB.

Are you sure you are talking about the 'bonus' file and not the 'content' (really extra content) file?
The extra content pack only contains one .exe file, and it contains only one part of what is on the disc (templates, I think). In their wisdom, Ulead has not made the other things on the disc self-executing, possibly because they thought they'd leave it up to the user to decide if they wanted it (none of those parts is essential to the operation of VS) and if so, where they would store it on the computer.
These parts are extra stock video clips, images, objects and masks. And you have to load them manually. While they probably should be loaded into your VS10 program folder within [C:\]\Program Files, they can in fact be stored anywhere you like.
Then in VS10, when you select the library pane for Video, Image etc, and manually insert a thumbnail for each video into the relevant library pane by pointing it to where you have stored the files.
The Bonus file, as you may have found, contains the very useful Cool 3D program which can be used to produce very professional 3D titles which can be inserted into a VS project. It also contains the software DVD player WinDVD7.

Thanks. I downloaded the vs10_bonus.exe file again and it's now 222MB (not 239MB). It still doesn't work. I don't yet have the 3D program you are talking about.
I'll start from the beginning. I downloaded the free 30-day trial version of VideoStudio 10 (which worked great). Then I paid for VideoStudio 10 Plus. When I ordered VidoeStudio 10 Plus, the website gave me a product key which I entered into the trial version and it worked. However, it wasn't the "Plus" as there were no additional features(obviously). So then an email came which I am copying for you below:

This was followed by the license key, etc. (note: I assume posting these web addresses is OK assuming there is no license key in my post; however, if this is not the case, please remove my post.)
So I downloaded all four files, and looked on the website for some explanation regarding what to do with these three files and what they are. Being unable to find any additional information (you must admit Ulead's email was quite confusing since I only ordered one product!) I ran the vs10_tbyb_e_na.exe file, which did nothing. Then, I removed the version of VideoStudio 10 on my computer and then ran
vs10_contentpack_e.exe which worked -- it gave me VideoStudio 10 with apparently some of the "Plus" features such as the Dolby surround sound, etc. So far so good. Then I tried to run the vs10_bonus.exe and it gave me an error that this was not a valid win32 application. I noticed the file I had downloaded was only 60MB (the email, as shown above, says it is 240MB), so I downloaded it again. This time I got 222MB and it still doesn't work. My assumptino is that I still don't have the actual file so I'm trying it again. I am assuming it will work when I get 240MB and run the file, but who knows? I wish Ulead had given even the simlplest explanation regarding the identity of these files and the process to run them appropriately. Also, downloading over 500MB by DSL is quite cumbersome -- I wish they offered a DVD...

If your only problem is indeed the Bonus file, then I think you are correct that it simply won't install anything until you have the full size file. Something is obviously going wrong with your download, but you know that already. Have you tried downloading with a specialised download manager program?
That being said, I should make a couple of other comments. First, I am a bit puzzled by the sequence of events of your own actions once you had the main files. In my opinion, you should have uninstalled the TBYB version you already had on your computer before you did anything else. As you realise, it was only VS 10 and not 10+. Apart from that, with TBYB versions a lot of people seem to have had a lot of problems simply using an unlocking key on what they had on their computer.
Anyway, I would think you should have uninstalled the existing version first, then installed File 4, then applied the unlocking key, then File 2. As I have said, File 3 doesn't contain anything essential to the operation of VS. But you might find those additional programs useful enough to merit the extra effort in successfully downloading the full file.
And last but definitely not least, though you won't want to hear it and it is too late anyway, all this merely underlines the concern that a lot of us old timers have expressed over the years about Ulead's offering this TBYB sequence. They DO offer a version on hard discs of the full version, though you have to pay extra money for freight. But at least you have something concrete in your hands which can be used for a clean install and any number of reinstallations should the case arise.
The full dowloaded version (without discs, though even there you can order back-up discs for $10 extra) also appears to work without the problems associated with the TBYB version.

Help w/ Reinstalling
I was having problems with VS10 plus and tech support told me to reinstall. I originally purchased the extended download and downloaded the file vs10_tbyb_e_na.exe It doesn't install. Every time I try it asks me to insert disk 1 that contains the file layout.bin. Any thoughts??
Thanks so much!
Thanks so much!
