Sanyo MP4

Post by randazzo »

I also own a MP4 camcorder for vacation use. Does VS10 process it's MP4 files. I think it should because the camcorder had Ulead DVD moviefactoryu SE with it.

But I want to know it for sure and trial-versions are often crippled.

What flavour of mpeg-4 does it use -- any specific codec? VS10 has its own, and it can handle others. But you may be out of luck if it uses the H.264 codec...

The Video Studio web page says:
MPEG-4 support
Take advantage of output templates for creating video for iPod, PSP, Smartphones, PDAs and other portable devices.
But, that's talking about making an MPEG-4 file. It doesn't really say you can edit MPEG-4. :?

If the the trial version does not work for you, you would be taking a risk. It might depend on the characteristics of the particular MPEG-4 file, or where the file came from.

You'll probably need to use the Sanyo software to transfer the video to you hard drive. And, you may need to convert the file to a different format before editing it.

DivX and Xvid are MPEG-4 variations, and if you search the forum for DivX, you'll see that these files cause lots of trouble!

Also, take a look at this Movie Factory post.

... While for others (well -- me! ) DivX causes no problems at all when used with VS10+. And of course others are reporting good, if restricted, results using DivX with HD cameras.

I have never used XVid so cannot comment on that.

I've downloaded the trial version and it handles the Sanyo MP4 files.
