PhotoImpact 11

Post by Keithmj »

Hi..I have two problems..One is after doing an install of PhotoImpact11 it starts to load the program and gets to where it says Loading Workspace Profile and it hangs there for about 20 seconds and then the graphic disappears and the program will not load. I have done a uninstall thru control panel and delete files in Doc and settings-user and users and did several clean installs but it does the same thing..Won't run. Second..I decided to reinstall PI 8 until I get this figured out but am having problems doing this..The telephone numer that you use to get your unlock sequence is invalid..I have emailed softwrap and Ulead but no response yet. What do you have to do just to reinstall the program and get it out of the trial mode when you can't get help doing this when you own the program..I'll never buy from Ulead again and if I can't get these problems taken care of soon I tell others not to bother with their products..You have to go thru so much just to install them..I hate to vent but this is a crazy way to do business..Has anyone else had these problems..Cheers..Keithmj

I don't want to rub salt into your wounds but your rantings are aimed at the innocent
  • 1. The users of this board advise to never activate a trial version after you buy the full version
    http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=18671
It's advisable to download the full version plus extra content or get the boxed version,
remove the trial from your system and install the full version after.
    2. I can't follow your complaint that the telephone number given to activate is now inactive, these days, the simple serial number of the program is enough.
    3. In order to help you, we need a bit more detail from you. Read this, provide the system details and we shall see what we can do http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8963
    4. We are NOT Ulead but a bunch of volunteers and fellow users, trying to help where we can
Now, calm done, get yourself a coffee or tea or whatever else you fancy, have a read of this, follow the instructions and see how you go
To reinstall the program here are the steps that Ulead suggests:

1. Please launch Windows Explorer and go to Tools>Folder>Options and on the View tab check "show hidden files and folders".

2. Empty contents of your Temp folder under C:\Windows\Temp.

3. Uninstall Ulead PhotoImpact using the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel.

3a. Goto C:/Document and settings/ and under each user listed look for a folder called Application data. Here you may find a Ulead Systems/PhotoImpact folder. If you do open it and delete the folder corresponding with the version you are trying to re-install.

4. Go to C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems then delete the PhotoImpact folder.

5. Go to Start > Run and type: "regedit" then click OK. This will open the Registry Editor program. Go to C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information and delete the following folders if they are present:
{FE58B892-3825-4610-A6A2-E6EFCA83BD97}

6. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Uninstall and delete the following folders if they are present:
{FE58B892-3825-4610-A6A2-E6EFCA83BD97}

7. Locate the identity enclosed in curly brackets that corresponds to Ulead PhotoImpact, delete the said entry.

8. Please delete all PhotoImpact folders on the ff: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ulead Systems\

9. Close regedit and restart your computer.

10. You can now proceed to reinstalling PhotoImpact. Be sure to logon as Administrator before installing your software to avoid restrictions.

Note: Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.

1. Most software it is quite usual to download the trial and then if you like it activate it. Ulead provide a path to do so so how really would the poster be expected to know that you advise against it.

2. Softwrap was the software system used by Ulead to control the TBYB versions and to provide the route to activate either product should the user like the product. So you see not everyone here I am sure has just had a simple serial number.

3. Of course this does mean this is an official Ulead product and activation method and you are wrong to incinuate that the source is non Ulead.

4. Again there is nothing dubious about what the OP has stated.

So I can imagine how frustrating this is.

Viewed in that light, I agree.

I just never heard of Softwrap before and jumped to the wrong conclusions.

How come though, that this user is complaining about a telephone number to activate not being active anymore. Was that common too in the old days to have to ring somewhere to activate a software?

On the top of this forum there is a sticky post, several actually, one of which reads "Please read this before posting" and another "Problems after unlocking the TBYB version"

I do expect users with problems to find this forum and do a bit of reading before they post. How else do they come to the conclusion that we may be able to help?

Maybe I was a bit harsh, wouldn't be the first time, and should edit my original response

Now I edited my original response and, on reading the OP again, find that this user is talking about PI 11. Was softwrap involved even that recently??

I'm stumped with this :?

I don't think Softwrap is involved with purchases from Ulead. I think that if you purchase from an affiliate or third party vendor, they may use Softwrap.

I went through the trouble to check my registered software at Ulead. I have had registered versions of PI since version 5. Never did I need more than the serial number to install it and I never needed any activation after.

Yes I agree, however I only have PI 11 and 12, I do have VS5. As you stated Heinz, MSP-8 was the only program that Ulead tried to use the activation.

Fact as recently as the first TBYB versions of MSP8 softwrap was used. Remember the big problem with the activated and the non activated version of MSP8? The activated one was driven by softwrap. So sorry you wrong to suggest Ulead dont use it. For a time they did.

Nick, don't get your shirt in a knot  nobody suggests you are wrong. It's just that it is not only me who didn't know about softwrap. I have used Ulead products since early 2000 and never heard of it. And, all my software, except the upgrade from VS 5 to MSP 6.5 (Boxed Version) were either SE versions bundled with hardware or ESD versions, full and upgrades, downloaded via elements5. Some trial versions were used as well. Never did I need to activate any.

Maybe they used softwrap in europe?

Pretty sure its not a European thing since the TBYB all come off the same server. I had an old installer for PI10 TBYB on another computer which I just ran and the trial is out of date. The dialog box that opens tells me that and has a powered bySoftwrap logo in the top right hand corner, gives me the choice to buy now or reinstall and says for product support email ulead@softwrap.com.

If you choose to purchase the next screen tells you will be connected to the Softwrap server. You then get your unlock codes. So atleast for PI10,11 and early MSP8 this was inplace.

It is specific to TBYB since as we all know if we buy the esd version it is done through Element 5.

Hi all..I'm sorry if you think my ranting was toward the members here but it isn't. It is toward Ulead and their setup of the programs..For those who have used the TBYB of any Ulead products they know that if you have computer problems and replace the hard drive and have to reinstall PI 8, or 11 or 12 you have to go thru alot just to get the program running again or if you get another computer you have the same hassels. And I had to contact Softwrap everytime and spend 20 minutes on the phone reading them 60 numbers and letters just to get a serial number. An update on what has happened..I contacted support and they did send me the upi8esd_e file so I don't have to keep calling to get the serial number to take the program out of trial..It works great..I then tried to install the upgrade to PI 11, the program will install but when it gets to the splash screen where it says.."Loading Workspace Profile" it will hang at it for about 20 seconds and then closes and the program won't load..I then contact support again and they sent me the upi11_esd_e file and I did a clean install and when I try to run the program again it does the same and will not start or finish loading. I can delete all the Ulead programs and files and install just the upi11_esd_e and it won't run.. I also use PSP and all I have to do is install the program, put in the registration info and it is running but with PI11 it is worse than pulling teeth. It is a great program when you can get it running. I just don't understand why the PI8 will run but not the PI11 when I had it running on the same computer before and just delete a user and setup a new one... Thanks for the info..Keithmj :D

Hello, you wrote me asking a question and I wish I had the answer to BOTH of our problems because it seems we are having the same difficulties. I want to ask about calling Support so I don't end up wasting my time. First question is, did you call only asking for a serial number or for more reasons? Second, do they guide you step by step and are they specific (I'm not that great with computers)? Well hopefully you get this and hopefully we end up getting PI 11 started on our computers again!

Hi..I was using the PI 8 and upgraded to PI 11 and had computer problems and needed to reinstall the PI 8 but they do not give support any more for this and I had no way to install the program without contacting support to get a serial# so I contacted support and they sent me the program that needs nothing else but an install. Now the PI 11 will install but not run..I'll get back with you when I get this fixed..Tech support has been a big help in helping me and I appreciate that..So contact them and see what happens..I'll contact you later and let you kow how it goes..Cheers..Keithmj

update

Post by Keithmj »

Hi all. just wanted to give an update on my problems and I hope this helps others..The programs would install and start to run until it got to the splash screen and then quit after hanging there for about 20 seconds..I tried a clean install as suggested and Ulead even let me download the programs again but it still did the same thing. I even contacted Dell for help and everything I tried it wouldn't work. Then I tried to install another program and it said that I didn't have Administrator righs to install it, even in safe mode in the admin account. So I finally got tired of messing with it and did a clean install of WinXP and that took care of my problems. All of my problems started when I tried to install Roxio CD Creator 6 on this computer but it wouldn't run so I removed it. (a conflict with SP2) So if you have these problems just copy your Favorites, Email, Doctument folder, and what ever else you want to save to another disc and completly reinstall windows..Now all my Ulead PI 8, 11, 12 and other programs work as they should...Cheers..Keithmj :D

Thanks guys for the help and advice.. 8)
