Audio Distortion From Capture Process

Post by Balathustrius »

Hello all!

I am currently trying to transfer some footage off of my Samsung SC-D353 digital camcorder using Ulead Videostudio 10 Plus(IEEE 1394 for connection). What happens is, that no matter what settings for capture I use (I have tried both recommended procedures listed in this forum, both DV and MPEG-2), when the clips have been captured there is audio distortion where none exists on the source tape. This happens in both clip and project mode. The transfer is somehow ruining it.

Now here is the kicker. I didn't use this camcorder to record this tape. Could that be the issue? My uncle recorded it on his camcorder, and I offered to transfer it to DVD for him. (Not going so well :( )

When I try my own recorded tapes, ones I recorded with this camcorder, I have no issues capturing.

Now if it is the fact that a different DV camcorder recorded this, is there anyway to correct this problem within the program? Or am I going to have to borrow HIS camcorder to capture HIS tape? Is this a common issue, tapes recorded on one camcorder not transfering properly when played through another?

I would really like to put this tape on DVD for my uncle, but he lives a ways away, so it would be nice if this was just a simple program issue.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Balathustrius

Capturing to DV¡K..

I have captured footage using a different camcorder and had no problems.

When you capture, connected via firewire, select DV, you are coping/ downloading/ transferring the video data. No re-coding.

No property settings are required. What you have is what you get.

The only setting available are the Dv-Type.

You should choose DV-Type 1

Check the capture settings that Type 1 is being used.

OK

Is the audio problem only apparent when using your uncles tape.?

If it was a simple program issue then it would happen with all Mini-Dv tapes.
And I know you didn¡¦t want to hear that.

So do you have problems with all capture or just this tape.?

And is the distortion only when played thru VideoStudio? What does the clip sound like if you play it with Windows Media Player?

Can you describe the "distortion" :?:

Perhaps it was recorded at 12-bit 32khz (instead of 16-bit 48khz). Or perhaps it was recorded in LP mode (to get more recording time on the tape).

For tapes recorded in LP, sometimes you need the original camcorder that did the LP recording to play it back properly...

The tape is recorded in LP, I just noticed when transfering it, it has LP in the corner of the screen on my camcorder.

I called my uncle and told him I would have to try it with his video camera.

Thanks for all your help guys!
