The best way to do this please

Post by erock »

I have a horiz rectangle panel with 2 lines of arial black text in it. The canvas is white and the text is in gold.

The file is a composite of a CMYK file given to me.

I wish to place the text exactly as it is in a transparant panel the same size.

It is a long task to have to select each letter and copy/paste it to the trans canvas.

What is the best way to do this please.

I have PI 10

I'm not sure I follow exactly what you have. My understanding is that you have a total of 3 lines or more of text, 2-lines are black, and at least 1-line being gold. The canvas is white..
  • Create a copy to work with in case something goes wrong (CTL +D)
  • Now Create a new image (CTL+N or File New, or click the New icon) in the dialogue window that opens select Active Image, this will give you the same size image as you are working with unless you need a different size, then ignore that.
  • Now return to your image that you want to get the text from. Select the Magic Wand selection tool, Settings: Area, 20, Connected Pixels.
  • Click on the canvas or background
  • Selection menu || Invert Selection
  • Right-click on the text, choose Convert to Object.
  • De-select everything, press enter or spacebar.
  • Select the text you want to copy to your new image, by holding the Control key while selecting.
  • Once you have them selected, Right-Click, Copy
  • Go to your new image, Paste.
Is that what you are looking to do?

There are a number of ways of doing what you want.

First you can use CTRL-D as Ron says and then replace the background with a transparent one.

Second way if you have the text selected right click and copy then open a new canvas with a transparent background exactly the same size and paste. It will be in the same place.

Lastly right click on the text and click propeties. In the position and size tab you can make a note of the position and then use it to position on a new transparent canvas.

These all work if the text is not merged on the background. If they are then use Rons method to select and convert it ot an object. The only step I would add is after inverting the selection I would right click and shrink the selection by 1 pixel before converting to an object as this usually gives a cleaner result.

Ah ha...

Did that all okay and now it is sitting in the trans panel as needed however I just noticed the white areas in the middle of the B, P and 8 etc were still there.

What is the best way to take these out or should I start again a different way.

The trouble is the trans version will sit on top of another busy image so it needs to be trans too.

Thanks

Don't know which method you used, but if you used the magic wand, then just click on the + which allows you to add more area, and make sure you click inside those circular areas of Os, Bs As etc.

How did you go about selecting the text? With the magic want tool? If yes, you need to select the background first, click on the plus sign in the tool bar, this will add subsequent selections to the initial one, and click all these areas that still remain white as well.
