I've never attempted using one of Burger's Transitions in an animated GIF. However since a transition, is animated, it has to be used with some type of animation, such as a video file, or animated GIFs. On Burger's site he states GIF5, so I don't think that PI would recognize them.
Again I have not used them when creating animated GIFs, but they are an effect to transition, move from one image into the next. So I would guess in GIF5 you need to click on the Video Effects, then you should see Burgers as one of the choices. When you mouse over Burgers, a menu containing all the Burger's Transitions will appear. Select the transition you want. A window (Add Effects) will pop open where you can set the delay time, number of frames to use for the transition, frame transition order, etc.
For the Burger's Transitions to be available in GIF5, you need to copy the .vfx files to the vfx_plug folder in GIF5.

Yes they would need to be the same size.
Again yes you can import your images from PI. You can have a transition go from Frame-x to Frame-x (frame-1 to frame-2) or you can highlight several frames in the timeline and then the transition will take all those frames, (Frame-1 to Frame-5) or Frame-3>Frame-5.
You now know about as much as I do when it comes to using Burger's Transitions with GIF5. I've been firing it up and trying somethings before replying to your posts...
I know the real expert, the genuine wizard of animation (Robert) will say I'm wrong. He's the one that really knows GIF..

Thanks for the help!
I've been trying this all out - how do you get 1 frame to sit behind another. I've tried 'add a frame' but can't seem to open so I can see both at once (should I?) - the 1st one asks me to save it (& then closes) in order for me to open the 2nd frame.
In other words - please can you/someone give me step by step directions to produce a transition between 2 (or more) images/text/frames etc
If the GIf-wizard is out there - please let me know!

Burgers Transistions... Make sure GIF Animator is closed. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files and find the Burgers Transistions folder. COPY all the .vfx files, and then PASTE them into GIF Animator's vfx_plug folder. Open GIF Animator. They will now be listed in the Video F/X menu.
I strongly suggest you read my Ulead GIF Animator Basics tutorial. You can also find the GIF Animator 5 User Manual here.
You seem to be confusing frames and objects in a big way here. Do some reading and a few things may become a lot clearer. The tutorials on my site regarding Tweening may also be useful to you.
To add a second image, do not use File, Open... use "Add Image" to add another object to the animation....
