question, help
hi all, i just got a tuner card yesterday and im still trying to get used to it, i downloaded the trial of movie factory and the couple things i have capped have turned out looking like crap (pixel mania)...but its all i can seem to hold on the DVD and it was only about 2 hours of video..
can someone tell me what my settings need to be at for the best quality possible for about 2 hours of video on a DVD-R...i just spent 2 hours capping an old wrestling tape and it turned out looking like garbage but it was like 4 GB...and i used the "DVD-NTSC Standard Quality-120 mins" mode so i dont know what i need to put my settings at...cuz i know DVD-Rs can hold 2 hours of video in great quality...
thanks in advance
Jon

Much more info will be needed for anyone to help you, I think.
Post your system specifications, what brand tuner card, etc.
I know it's frustrating when you are starting out. I have been reading for 3 months and I am more confused than when I started. (I know a lot more but it starts to run together).
Here is a good place to start educating yourself and it may answer your question in the process.

I'm still a 3 month newbie..but here's what I think.
What works for one person on their setup doesn't always work for another person. I have a decent system but I had to play for hours with mine to find settings "my machine" liked.
In the meantime, one way you can keep the majority of the quality and make sure your output fits on 4.7 dvd is to author in DMF to folders (not direct burn) and then run it through DVD Shrink. It's free and works great and you can burn right from the program if you use Nero burning software. Lot's of great guides can be found on using this software by google searching on it.
Hope this helps you get a finished product on a disk until you find a permanent answer.

it seems when you select the "DVD NTSC 60 min" and "DVD NTSC 90 min" mode it still lets you record more then what the mode says can fit. what im saying is if you record 90 mins of video in 90 min mode...its still not the full 4.7GB, its only like 3.7GB or something...so i was able to burn about 95 mins of video onto a DVD-R in DECENT quality using the 90 min mode. i think i should be able to fit 120 mins of video in the 90 min mode. eh, its all really confusing! lol...another thing is that i am getting kind of a skipping, hesitating frame type problem which i think is what the person in the other post is dealing with..livingdeadgirl do you have a messenger i can talk to you about this on?
thanks

i have a problem
i'm trying to burn some wmv files onto a dvd...everything is compatible and such.....but the dvd turns out full but when i play it it is just black no vid no sound...nothing....
i went and looked at the converted files and they are blank as well even though the sizes are what they should be....so i don't think its the burning process but the conversion process....can any one help???

@forty1down: Sorry I don't use messengers. Had to kick the mIRC habit cold turkey several years back
As to the dropped frames (jerky motion), it's a matter of finding the proper settings that your system will record smoothly at.
Does the trial version allow you to apply the latest patches? I seem to remember some posts about project size vs reported size being fixed by those.
I'm pretty much tapped out on other ideas forty1down. Best of luck.
