How to adjust time for frame overlay?

Post by Matt G »

Nature of the problem:
My project involves inserting a frame overlay over a video clip. The only way I have found to adjust the length of the overlay is to "grab" the edge of it in the timeline view and stretch it to the desired length. I am hoping that there is somewhere to manually enter a length for the frame, so I can just type in the desired minute/second/frame length that I want it to be. Is there a way to do this, and if so, how can I access it?

Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?)
The video file is an .avi, and the frame is a .png

What devices are involved and their mode of connection?
None

Project Settings
(copied from "Project Properties" under the File menu)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 4:3, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- NTSC, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD)

PAL or NTSC
N/A

Error Codes (if any)
N/A

Please let me know if I need to clarify anything.
Thanks.

Hi Matt,

Yes there is a way to do this. When you insert your image to the timeline, either overlay or main, then you should see a couple of tabs Edit and Attributes. On the Edit Tab, the first box which is numerical and has a clock to it's left, is where you set the duration for the image. You can press the up/down arrows, or just type in the numerical duration. The format is, HH:MM:SS:FF, (Hours:Minutes:Seconds:Frames). So if the video clip is 2 min, 20 secs, 10 Frames (0:02:20:10), then type that into the spin box for the image, and viola, the image will be the exact duration as the video clip..

I find it easier to just drag the edge to where I want the overlay to finish.

Thanks for the reply - that was exactly what I needed to know. I had missed seeing the additional tab.
