Smartsound in VS10+

Hi

Is there any indepth information in regard to how this smartsound works in vs10+.

Previously to using VS10+ I had a Pinnacle system that also used smartsound, however I never had to do anything as they all automatically downloaded.

With VS10+ I'm in rather a muddle. If I click on automusic, the add to timeline is grayed out. Most often I click on the drop-down box to choose music, I receive a popup box stating: Smartsound download has failed. Make sure you are connected to the internet and try again.
I have all the tracks listed on my HDD. I am connected to the internet.
How do I get these tracks to auto play with my video?

There's little to no information on how to use this........any helpers here please?

There have been a number of posts on this, and I myself have experienced it too. Unfortunately, I can't find for the moment a thread containing the relevant information.

If I recall correctly, though, it is all tied up with the version of Quicktime you have installed. You probably have some version of Quicktime 7. This has to be uninstalled, and Quicktime 6 reinstalled. There is also a Smartsound update patch available on the www.smartsound.com website, with instructions what to do with. It too requires your current ineffective Smartsound files to be uninstalled. Then you reinstall SmartSound, which sees QT6 and is happy. Then you can reinstall the later QT7. And all should be well.

Hopefully someone will be able to provide more exact details, but this might help in the meantime.

I'm not sure if it is all that simple. I just happened to have used VS 10+ smartsound last night and it worked nicely. Now, I'm not at all sure which version of quicktime, if any, is installed on that machine. Being my main editing machine though, it is NOT connected to the internet.

I will check tonight which version of quicktime is installed and report back here.

Thanks for the responses gentlemen.

I also have a quicktime alternative..... do you think that would interferre with the quicktime 7 that comes with smartsound.

According to smartsound website I have an older version of smartsound so I'll update that and see how it goes.

And are you sure QT version *7* came with the VS installation? On mine, it definitely came with a version of 6, and when it encountered that QT7 Pro was already on the computer, it did not proceed. And that was the basis of my problem.

I grant you, though, that Ulead may now be shipping with QT7 as my version of VS10+ was one of the early ones...

I'm not sure VS10+ came with QT7.....I just said that assuming it did!

I uninstalled the version of QT I had on my pc. I downloaded the latest version and installed. I went to smartsound via the link you gave me Ken, downloaded the fix-it .......voila it's working good.

I had quite a lot of smartsound tracks from pinnacle so I transferred them over. Along with lots of other graphics etc.

I thought the download pack of SmartSound songs was the same for both Pinnacle and Ulead products (it's in fact Disc 1 of the SmartSound Audio Palette series and called 'Full Spectrum' as it is in VS -- just a selection from a variety of other of their records to show what the rest of the range is like). Or did you actually obtain more from Pinnacle somehow?

Yes, they're the same, however I had smartsound music from like 5 years ago and looks like they're not available now, or I'd have to purchase a CD.
I just transferred what I didn't have with VS10+ including all pinnacle f/x and various sounds (many of these are either .wav or .mp3).

I agree with you in regard to the whopping cost of smartsound music. It's somewhat over the top in price. There's quite a few that can be downloaded off the internet also..... I managed to get some cool tunes of Peter John Ross from sonnyboo.com http://www.sonnyboo.com/music/music.htm

Do the Pinnacle F/X work in Ulead products? Do they use the same .vfx extension?

You may have to install the SmartSound update. It fixes compatibility issues with QuickTime 7, amongst other things. It can be found here:

Hi Fellows, being one that had major problems in trying to update SmartSound. Thanks ever so much for Steve and Ron in their trying to help, I wound up having to reformat my hard drive. Everything seems to be in great shape. VideoStudio 10 Plus along with SmartSound is working properly now. I notice that I have Quicktime 7.0.3 on my machine. Have any of you upgraded to Quicktime 7.1.3 ? If so, was there any problems? If not, should there be any problems? One more question, is there any great need to upgrade Quicktime? My computer is a Pentium 4 at 2.2 Ghz with 1 Gig of ram running XP home edition. Thanks in advance for any replies on this.

I only have QT 7.0.3, and don't intend on upgrading it. If it aint broke don't fix it'.

Hi trueblue

From the Auto music tab, make sure the Full Spectrum 22k is selected from the library box.
If there are other options in this drop down box they are most likely sample clips.
These are downloadable, allowing you to buy if you like.

Again select Full Spectrum 22k

From the Music Box I see about 26 titles. The first being Bach Guitar.
Hit the play icon, does it play?

The minimum length of music you can insert is 3 seconds
You have to have a Video / Image clip in the timeline (longer than 3 seconds.)
The Music track has to be clear at the point you wish to insert the audio.
The music clip will insert at the project position indicator

One of the problems I have noticed that affects smartsound is when someone decides to install itunes on the computer - the version of quicktime that ships with it does not appear to be compatible with
smartsound.
