DVD Menus skipped on DVD player

Post by PB »

I successfully create and burn a DVD that shows the added menus when played through WInDVD on my PC. When played through my DVD player the menus are skipped and the video content plays immediately: chapter jumping and skpping makes no difference, the menus are not picked up at all. The DVD player is a Sony RDR710 which reads/writes DVD+R & -R. I am presently using DVD+R media.

Update: I'm using VideoStudio 10+ and used the updated VS10+ procedure as described in this forum.

I'm pretty sure I didn't set "play video before menus" (unless its a default and I may have not unset it....)

The folders on the DVD disc are AUDIO_TS (empty) and VIDEO_TS.

Under Video_TS there are VIDEO_TS. BUP, IFO and VOB files. Then VTS_01_0.BUP & IFO and then VTS_01_1/2/3/4.VOB files.

Are you using VisualStudio to burn the DVD?

If so, which version?

We don't know enough about what software you are using or what process you followed.

Is it possible you just burned the DVD incorrectly? If you have a choice, burn using a DVD-VIDEO mode instead of a regular DATA DVD.

Can you list all the folders and files on your disc :?:

...And check that you didn't accidentally have a tick in the box "Play all clips before Menu" in the Options icon (the middle one) in the bottom left of the burning screen...

I suppose that could possibly be the issue, but it was mentioned that the DVD Plays properly with WinDVD on the PC...

Yes, true George, it was also said that the desktop player is a SONY 8) to me that could also be part of the problem. Maybe I'm just paranoid about SONY

Yes, I realised that, George, when I wrote what I did. But I did so just on the off-chance that it could have been a reason. Every so often, my software DVD Player (PowerDVD) does something strange around the menu stage of playing a DVD (usually a hard DVD rather than a Video_TS folder). So I thought it might be a possibility that WinDVD might simply have ignored the embedded signal to play everything before the menu, and instead first played the menu! But the Sony obediently did not!

SONY, more often than not, obediently does what you don't want and prevents you from doing what you do want. 8)
