Pausing Video

Post by cubaboy »

Hi all. I am currently preparing to capture on dv a night of boxing action for a friend. I have an idea in my head that as an intro to the fight I would have a short clip (between 30 seconds and two minutes) in which I would have a short sequence of fight action for each fighter (accompanied by a rip roaring soundtrack) and at the appropriate moment pause the shot on the fighters face and have his name come up on the screen and the to either run on the action or skip to the next fight sequence. What I want is ideas on how to achieve this effect. So far (using other video clips) I manged it by taking a screen shot of the last frame of the clip. I then add the text in photoshop and add the image to the project. It looks a bit choppy (i think theres an issue regarding the placement of the image on the screen) so I would be very grateful for any help or tutorials you can offer.

Thanks,
BrianCee

Well you've got the right idea - but why use Photoshop with all the transfers etc involved - opening and saving it in Photoshop is a possibe cause of quality loss.

take a screen shot and insert it directly into the timeline after your video and stretch it to the desired length - then use the VideoStudio 'Title' option to put your text over it.

Hi cubaboy

I agree with Brian that you seem to have the correct approach.

You said :-
((i think theres an issue regarding the placement of the image on the screen))

Two things

1 / When you capture the image from the video, Switch to Project Playback Mode

Use------Tools-Save Current Frame as Image.

What you see is what you get.

2 / If the frame is in the middle of the video, use the scissors to cut, then save the last frame, again using Tools
Insert the image at the cut point.

To expand on Brian's advice:
1. With your clip selected in the timeline move the cursor to the desired frame to be used as the paused image. Click on the Scissors icon to cut the clip.
2. Now, on the Video tab click Save As Still Image. That will put an image clip in your Image Library.
3. From the Image Library drag that clip to the timeline between the two clips, where you made the cut (you may have to choose Keep Aspect Ratio from the Resampling Option list).

Now your clip will play, pause on the image, then continue playing. You can modify the length of time that image appears (or pauses), add a title over top of the image, etc.
