Recording sound from a CD
I am trying to record a song from a CD to the music track. When I record, it picks up the music coming from my pc speakers and any background noise, talking, etc that is occuring. When I turn down my speakers, it records nothing. How do I adjust my settings so it will record directly from the cd to the music track?
Do you have a CD "ripping" program?
I use Exact Audio Copy (free) to extract the CD audio to a wave file. If i need to process or edit the audio, I use Goldwave ($45).
Then you can add the wave file to your video project. (Sorry, I don't remember the exact steps for adding or replacing a soundtrack... (I don't have Video Studio on this machine.)

Recording a song from a CD into Video Studio
If I understand your question correctly, it seems as though you are trying to record a CD into Video Studio using a microphone to record the sound coming from speakers. If this is what you are doing, this is definitely not the way this procedure is accomplished. Consult your owners manual. The instructions are there on how to record a song from a CD directly into Video Studio. There will be no background noise as, in the correct procedure for doing this, the recording is accomplished by direct wire rather than by accoustic means.
