DVD Playback on TV

Right....
If you simply burned a video file onto the disc, it won't work. The video "data" on the disc needs to be formatted properly. This should happen automatically if you choose Create DVD. (Ummmm... I don't remember if Create DVD is exactly the correct terminology and I don't have Video Studio on this PC.
)
If you created menus and these menus appear when you play the DVD on your computer, then the format is probably OK.
Right-click on the DVD and choose Explore. You should find a VIDEO_TS folder and an AUDIO_TS folder. The VIDEO_TS folder should contain several files, including a few ~1GB .VOB files which hold the actual video (and audio). The AUDIO_TS folder will be empty. (You can compare the files on your DVD to any commercial DVD to see it it looks correct.)
Also, you should be aware that some stand-alone players can't play "burned" DVDs at all. And, some can play DVD-R, but not DVD+R, or vice-versa. some players have trouble with R/W (erasable) discs.
It's actually a good idea to use a DVD-R/W when you are first learning the software. Even after you're comfortable with the software, it can be helpful when you're making a complicated menu structure, or if you want to make sure the colors look right on a TV. (Assuming your player can play R/Ws.)

You might have a compatibility issue between your DVD player and the type of media your using. You can check for compatibility issues here :

Sometimes burning a disc too fast can cause problems with playback on various DVD players. What speed did you burn the disc? It is recommended to burn no faster then 4x.
