COMPONENT TRANSFER ERROR - crops up when installing VS9!!!

Post by lakewud »

Any chance someone out there can help with this problem?

Had no problems in the past installing VS9 onto my computer..but since ive re-installed my software..inlcuding WinXP...for the first few minutes installing VS9 all is fine then...stops..and up pops, Component Transfer Error...H: drive......Data Error ( redundancy check )....or words to that effect!!

Any clues?

In case its related...have found that when i install all my drivers...once my computer reboots...seems to hold on the 'welcome to windows' icon...and wont let me get past that...so, at present am using this internet etc with only so many drivers on. Whether thats part of the problem..im not certain, as also been getting memory usage errors?

Cant understand why, have all the reinstalling disks, in order, tried serveral times etc etc.

Any ideas?

I'm afraid, you are talking in riddles
...so, at present am using this internet etc with only so many drivers on.
what exactly do you mean by that?

Why did you reinstall your OS in the first place? Did you have a problem? If yes, what was it?

Did you do a thorough disk check, memory check? Did you reformat your disk before you re-installed all?

When did you get the checksum error?

One place to start looking would be hardware. I would run a checkdisk on the harddrives, then also download and run Memtest86, to see if you might have a memory module going bad. I certainly would not attempt to install any program until you get your OS stabilized.

Although im none the wiser, thanks for the replies.

To answer your question Heinz, reason i chose to erase my drive is due to having so many programs like VS10/PhotoImpact etc as well as tons of captured footage from my camcorder - all came about when i was editing my first attempt at VS9. Completed that one successfully, wanted a fresh plate so to speak so, seeing as i have all the reinstall disks that came with my new(ish) computer i thought - whats the harm!

As far as my talking in riddles go, problems arose when i came to put on the drivers, towards the end of the disk, whenever it boots up again, simply sticks on the window logo and i can move from there, not even to reboot again and try safe mode....so, have been having to delete partitions etc time and again, putting on windows etc...to figure out whats the problem. I have manually downloaded the drivers ive needed, alls well...fast as ever and does everything it could do before...BUT, when it comes to putting on my VS9 - up pops that message...so, whether its related to me messing about im not too sure to be honest, googleearth etc all work fine.

CAN ANYONE ADVISE ME WHAT TO DO;

The message that crops up when about 2minutes into loading on the VS9 cd is;

(seems to stick at the INSTALLSHIELD WIZARD stage /ulead9/ulead.dat/hereff.dat.c.terra ( words to that effect )) as the blue line is coming to the end of the first part of downloading VS9. The message which then comes up is;

COMPONENT TRANSFER ERROR
COMPONENT: Full
FILE GROUP: Content_full_e
FILE: I:/program/us9/data2.cab
ERROR: Data Error ( Cyclic redundancy check )

Make sense of that if you will!! From the little i understand, Component error has something to do with the in this case VS program sharing a similar program??

Finally, Memtest86, how does that all work..if your talking riddles?...anyone know of a way to show ALL MY DRIVERS, so i can perhaps manually download updated versions from the internet ( Fuit_siemons in this case )..could the FILE: I:/program..have something to do with the I drive??
Any help please.

Your CRC error (cyclic redundancy check error) pops up when the checksum of the data on the disk does not tally with the nominal checksum. You either have a corrupt download (I doubt that because it installed once before, right? From the same disk?) or a faulty CD.

Where to go from here, I honestly don't know. Is that the only disk you have of this installer? Try cleaning the data side of it in case there are fingerprints and scratches etc.

Thanks for the advice Heinz, better to be the disk than the computer i suppose. Have noted a 'slight' scratch on the disk, and having installed Pinnacle Studio ( a disk that came 'free' and never used before ) and find that it works fine, allowing me to capture footage etc as per the norm..im suspecting that it must be my VS9 disk at fault.

So - a good reason to go out and buy VS10 i suppose.

Do VS have any, send us your old VS disks and we'll ugrade for a small fee up their sleeve? OR, send in your scratched dvd and we'll replace?

Just a thought.

Cheers

Well they certainly have an upgrade policy which involves paying a bit over half the normal price of the program, I think. And you don't have to present the old disc -- When installing the upgrade, though, the program asks for the serial number of the old one.
