SmartCurves in PI 12

Post by blplhp »

I tried a search for this topic, but found nothing, so here is my question. I just recently started using the SmartCurves feature in PI 12 with some of the shots taken from my new Canon Powershot A630 digital camera. Some of the results look a bit over processed. Has anyone else used this feature for adjusting their images or do most members here use the individual photo adjustments? And how has the final image from SmartCurves looked to you compared to the actual scene? The manual makes it sound like that SmartCurves is tailored to specific cameras or maybe just the camera manufacturer's typical response curve anomalies profile. I know PI 12 came out in September of 2006 and the Canon A630 was announced at the end of August 2006, and started selling in September of 2006, so not sure how Ulead would have been able to get my camera's specific algorithms in PI 12. Any thoughts? :?:
Cheers,

Bryan P.

I use it all the time for images which do not look exactly like I expected. The Canon profile supplied with PI 12 already gave me good results with images from my Canon EOS 350D but I made my own camera profile with bracketed shots I took with the EOS.

The learning center has a good tutorial on this http://www.ulead.com/learning/pi/pi12_05_1.htm

Yes, I use that feature in PI 12 all the time. :)

You need to specify the camera profile when you use the SmartCurve feature. Take my copy of PI for example, I use Sony DSC-M1 so I use the Sony profile and it looks not bad.
