Did 'split audio' cause this problem?

Post by jebrighton »

First, I am using the purchased and updated version of Ulead 10 Plus.

In a 10 minute clip of a larger video, I wanted to add video from a second camera. I perfomed a 'split audio' and placed a short clip into the timeline from the other camera. I tried to sync the audio track back to orginal video and finally just gave up. No matter what I did, the video was always about one second ahead of the sound. On this video, the sync was very important because it was a wedding video and I don't want it to be comical. I finally gave up and deleted the 10 minute clip from the timeline along with the inserted video and the seperate audio to get a fresh start. I reinserted the orginal 10 minute clip with sound from the library. The clip's sound plays fine in 'CLIP' mode but will not play in 'PROJECT' mode.

I am wondering if the program somehow thinks this clip should me muted because of the 'split audio' function. Obviously, the sound is still there since it does play in 'CLIP' mode.

Big question is this. How do I restore sound to that clip without recapturing the entire 10 minutes agan? I appreciate any suggestions.

Hi

Editing in the timeline does not change the captured video clip in any way.
Editing creates vertual links to the captured clip.

If you start a new project
Insert the captured video clip you are starting to start from scratch.

Entire video is 45 minutes with lots of scenes, transitions, background music, and overlays. If I just reloaded this video into a new project, I would have to recreate the remaining 35 minutes that work very well. I would rather recapture the 10 minutes than redo 35 minutes if there are no more choices.

There have been quite a few posts recently with the same problem. It seems that most (if not all) had Quicktime 7 installed, and reverting back to Quicktime 6 solved the problem.

I uninstalled Quicktime7 and reinstalled 6. That made everything worse. The sound sputters. Every few seconds, I hear part of a word but mostly silence. I am in process of resinstalling 7. At least, I heard sound except on the previously mentioned clip.

I failed to mention earlier that I made a mpeg file of my project. It plays great except for that 10 minutes of silence. Does anyone have any suggestion as to how I can get this sound back in this or another project?

I think we need to get a bit more information. You never mentioned what the Clips are? MPEG-2 or DV? The QT issue usually refers to the MOV video file format. It appears that the problem file came from the second camcorder, correct? If so what make/model of camera is it, and what format does it record to?

How are you getting the video into your computer? USB 2.0, Firewire or DVD?

Hi jebrighton

When you split audio, video studio does two things.

1 / it creates an sound clip and places it in one of the audio timelines(voice track)
2 / it mutes the sound within the video clip in the timeline.

To restore the original sound in the video clip, simply un-check the ¡¥mute¡¦ button.

Remove the sound clip from the audio timeline. (delete it)

You are now using the original clip with sound

Hi Again

Playback using the project mode is sometimes a little poor.
Your pc specifications may play a part in this.
Please update your profile to include your pc spec¡¦

Audio sync.

As you are having problems with playback, this I am sure makes syncing audio very difficult, especially when trying to listen to the sound.
I further assume you have one clip in the top timeline and the 10 minute one in the overlay track.

If you switch the view to ¡¥Audio View¡¦ the ¡¥loudspeaker button ¡¥ under the word ¡¥clip¡¦

VS will start loading wave data. This should be displayed at the bottom of the thumbnails.

You should be able to identify the sound waves in both clips.

Drag the 10 minute clip to sync the visual waves, expand the timeline to get a more accurate view.

Once you are satisfied, mute the 10 minute clip.

Is that what you are trying to do

Hope this Helps

PS:-
you can play the project in High Quality Playback. (file Preferences-Playback Method)
This renders the project to a temp file saved to the preview folder (File-preferences-preview tab) (it takes time to render)
Once complete the project should play as good as playing a clip.
Each additional edit will render again.
Switch to this mode to check the final audio sync.
Can be time consuming.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. However, I just deleted the entire scene, recaptured the 10 minutes from the camcorder and it works fine. I wish I had noticed the mute button but didn't.

I did not even try to add another clip in the middle. I just used the overlay process for it. Before, I was trying to insert another video into the 10 minute clip and return to orginal while keeping sound in sync. I found that to be virtually impossible.

In the past, I have used VideoStudio 7, 9, and now 10. Everything has worked well even in 10 except for the audio. It seems they complicated it with this 5.1 stuff and the process is now buggy. My only problem with 10 has been the sound. Although I admit this latest problem was self-inflicted.
