color darkens when recording

Hello - new to this forum. I am using video studio 7se with an ads dvd express 2 . System has been working fine until the other day for no reason
when making a mpeg movie the brightness of the movie goes almost dark.
I have tried to adjust brightness with the video control on options- mpeg but it defaults back to the original whether I set it or not. Since I am a school teacher making tutorials for my students and some only use win 95- and now the movies are to dark--I am in trouble and don't know how to fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated. thanks dfulco

I discovered the problem was in the video settings on my video card. Thanks for the help anyway.
