Can anyone shed some light on this software for me?
PhotoImpact Pro v.11 by Nova
I have been an avid user of Ulead's PI since version 4 or 4.2 and wanted to upgrade from version 10. I purchased this PI v11 which I thought was the next version but find out it is not even ULEAD software but distributed by Nova Development Corp.
The center which I purchased the software from will not take it back. My customer service email to Ulead was very much less that satisfactory in clearing up this matter for me as well.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've known some people that use Nova PI. It is very similar to Ulead's. It can do most of what Ulead's PI versions can do. However any patches, updates, etc., from Ulead will not install on Nova's. You will have to get them through Nova.
How long ago did you purchase it? Generally if has been over 30 days, then any warranty or money back guarantee would have expired. Then I can understand Nova not accepting it back. Ulead is not under any obligation to support Nova's products.
So actually there's nothing that can be done, except maybe try selling it, and replacing it with a genuine Ulead product, which the current version is PI-12.

It has been less that 30 days. Problem is I opened it up and tried to install.
Once the install quit with a message stating that it had detected another version of PhotoImpact on my machine and would not continue with the installation process until I removed the current version of PhotoImpact...(DEEP BREATH)...I stopped and investigated just what I had purchased further. It was then I realized that I had a copy of PhotoImpact developed by Nova and not Ulead. This was the absolute first time I had heard of Nova's PI. Pretty misleading if you ask me.
I know I have ran dual versions of Ulead's PI in tha past so I refused to continue installation of some other brand of software and delete my Ulead version which I have been using for many years now - (SINCE v.4).
Is there anyway of running both software packages?

The NOVA version is a reworked Ulead PI with appropriate patches available at the time. Nova usually also include some extra material with theirs also.
Nova are only a distributor for ULEAD PhotoImpact in the US. The PI code is modified by Nova and the installer is different to Ulead's also. Nova will not allow any other version of PhotoImpact, Ulead's or Nova's, on the same system. It will happily work when you install Ulead's PI after the Nova version is installed but no second version of Nova is allowed. Ulead's PI works happily alongside any version you want to install. I know of people who have every version since PI 6 on their system. Personally, I have PI 10, 11 and 12 installed simultaneously.
The problem with software is this, once you open it, there is no obligation by the vendor to take it back. They cannot resell it because the package has been opened and there is only your word claiming that you did not install it. That is not a reflection on your honesty but a safe guard applied by software companies. You may not, I wouldn't either but there are a lot of people around who would go and buy software, install it and return it to the vendor afterwards, claiming they don't like it.
It's different when the product is faulty. Sorry.

Thank you for your help and assistance. I will have to read the software boxes a lot more closely in the future.
