I do not understand how to get my picture show to play on my dvd player. I am using the cd dvd picture show 4. I downloaded the trial version to see if I could do it, but I can't. Does it have something to do with the output that I select. If so I do not know which one to select. I am buring with a cd burner onto a music cd-r. Is this a simple fix or what. I am trying to play it on a magnavox dvd player, but it says it doesn't recognize the disk or something like that. PLEASE HELP

Although a CD and a DVD look the same they are different.
A DVD disc contains about 6 times the amount of storage space that a CD disc can hold.

You need a DVD burner and DVD discs.

Hi Monica,

There are a couple of things that are causing you the problems.
1. You are using a CD Burner, burning a music cd.
2. You are trying to play a CD on a DVD player. If your DVD player is capable of playing CDs then it should IF it is in the correct format.

When you create a slideshow, you are in essence creating a video. So you must create a video disc, either a VCD (uses a CD ROM) or a DVD.

If you only have CD burner, then you will not be able to create a DVD, which needs a DVD burner to do.

So for you to create a disc that can play in your DVD player, it will need to be either VCD or SVCD. That also as stated above, depends on if your DVD player can read and play CD ROMS, which would be the VCD.

Next creating a VCD is much different then burning music files, or data to a CD. It must be formated with the correct structure, headings, etc., so the player knows what you placed in it, and how it is to play it. I have never used this program, so I don't know what the steps or workflow that is used. However with Ulead's VideoStudio, there is a step called Share>Create Disc. This is where the video files are added, the menus are built, and then finally the disc is burned.

So can you confirm that your DVD player can play VCDs? Then can you post the steps (workflow) you are using? This would include any video files that you would be creating and the format, MPEG-1, AVI, DV, MPEG-2?

I have played other things that people have created on my dvd player but not sure exactly what it was. How would I find out if my DVD player will play VCDs. Also, I not sure what you mean by the steps.. unless you mean the step 1 is to organize, step 2 is to put a theme to it, like sound which i used a song in mp3 format then step 3 is to burn. It does have an option/preferences menu in which you are to choose what files are to be output to the disc(photofiles, audio files, project file) and then under preferences you are to select the disc format settings(legacy SVCD, SVCD standard compatible format, or you can put in a custom format). You can also send to a particular TV system but NTSC is marked automatically being in the US. I am babbling on so I will stop and see if I am going in the right direction.

thank you for responding so quickly

I got the manual out for the dvd player and it says it supports the following: cd-r, cd-rw, audio CD, DVD+r, DVD+rw, Dvd-r, DvD-rw, DvD-video. I hope this helps.

The brief steps to create a VCD or SVCD (The SVCD is the better of the two)
1. Open CD & DVD Picture Show
2. Bottom left corner of the screen is a drop down box - select either VCD or SVCD
3. Top left of screen click the + symbol and add your slides or videos
4. Click the centre tab marked [2. Theme] and choose one of the preset themes
5. Click the text on the DVD Menu to alter it to your own
6. Click the tab [3 Burn]
7. Give it a title [Disc Volume Label]
8. select to burn to either a disc or an image file
(If the option to burn to a Hard Drive Folder is selectable see item 9 below)
9. Again make sure the drop down box at the bottom left of the screen is set to either VCD or SVCD as required
10. Click Burn Now.
11. Save the project as prompted
12. Sit back and let the program do its work.

Didn't work

Post by moszena »

I did everything twice. I tried VCD and SVCD. Neither one would work in the dvd player. it immediately says to eject disc because it does not recognize the format.

Is it that I am using a CD-r music cd? I don't know what else to try.

Please help>

Could you perhaps try it in a friend or relatives DVD Player to see if it works. Some DVD players are a bit fussy with what they play.

Another thing that springs to mind is burn speed. I have only had an issue with burn speed when creating DVD discs but never with a CD.
It has been found that discs burned at lower speeds tend to play better in a standalone player compared to a disc burned at high speed.

To create a VCD / SVCD you are using the correct discs - the same ones used to create music discs.

Glad you now have it working
:D

Try downloading the trial versions of
VideoStudio
MovieFactory

They are perhaps the two most popular Ulead Video Products and each has its own strengths and weaknesses.
VideoStudio is a Video Editor so that you can chop up your video and then glue it all back together again (e.g. taking the adverts out of a TV recording)
MovieFactory is mainly a DVD authoring tool that will take a video and convert it into a DVD.

Both can do some of what the other does - you need to try both to see which of the two is more suitable to your requirments.
