Export transparent titles

Post by woxof »

I have Cool3D, not Production, but this is the only forum I can find. I want to export movie titles to UVS8 that have transparent backgrounds. Export TGA just gives me a picture (or a bunch of pictures) and I can only export as a video (no GIF export is available even though the DOCS say it is there). Even exporting as a TGA file there is still a background. So the only uses I can see for this program (I really wish it hadn't been included as a "freebie" with UVS8) creating an animated GIF and exporting a transparent title to a DVD aren't available. I know where to find the buttons to push but the results don't work.
Thanks

Woxof,
If you have COOL3D 3.5 you have the following features. Under File column, Create Image Files. If you select TGA, under TGA options you have checkboxes for Transparant Background and image sequence. You also have the transparent checkbox for GIF. Under Create Animation Files. Video Files, you can create a 32 bit avi with alpha channel which makes the background transparent. Or create GIF Animation Files and again check the Transparent Background box. Final option is to save as native .c3d file and import into UVS8. Video Studio supports one alpha channel, so again the background will be transparent. As you can see, these are the many ways of creating transparent titles, logos and models for overlay in your video projects. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help.

The save as 32 BIT was where i went wrong. I also failed to mention I have V3.0. I'll be d#%&ded if I can find the disk now. I do not believe it was a "lite" or "SE" version. There is no provision for saving as a still or animated GIF. My documentation clearly says that it will but the option just isn't there under Create IMage or Create Animation. Any further suggestions on this would be appreciated but the real issue was the animated titles and that is OK now.
Thanks again

Check the update packs of COOL 3D, I think the Flash Output Pack for COOL 3D 3.0 should help.

That's great info. I'm still using the Cool 3d 3.0 that came with my VS8 so I don't have the alpha channel .avi file option.

I made a C3D project and imported it into VS and it made a great overlay.

Thanks so much for the help, even if I wasn't the one who asked.
