Importing a Vid Goes to My Documents
I have MF5+ and a DVD minidisc Camcorder. Everytime I import my vids they go to the My Documents/Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5/ folder. I have changed the preferences working folder but no such luck it always drops the imports in the above folder. If I move the the above folder I have to go through a relinking process after every single import.
Any ideas would be welcome, and thank you in advance.

My Camera produces DVD -R or DVD RAM Disc which I can place in my computer and read the DVD RW directly. The import so much faster than hooking up the USB2 cable to the camera. The DVD camera is not recognized as camera but as DVD Disk and therefore no capture option available.
It is interesting if I enter the main DMF5 screen and choose "Import, Import from DVD" it always goes to \My Documents\Ulead MovieFactory 5\
If I choose "Video Disk, New Project, Create a Video Disk, Import from DVD" and save the project BEFORE I actually import the files, DMF5 saves the imports to my working folder (determined in preferences) in a subfolder called "capture".

foder prompted
im usin dvd movie factory 5,uvs 10 plus and workshop 2..my quest is default folder is at my document,i want to change this folder destinstion to other drive for example D..but to no avail,it build in my document after rebooting my pc...how can this be done?when i open that programmes it prompt for folder which is must be relinked..
You set the "Working Folder" either from the MF5 launcher screen or under "Preferences" F6 Hotkey while in MF5's timeline. Make sure we are talking about the correct module here, I'm referencing the actual Normal MF5 timeline that works with the videos.
If you set or point MF5 to a bad working folder such as one that doesn't exist, an external usb harddisk that's not plugged in, a network folder or a folder you don't have enough rights to it then loads your default profile.
Try using MF5 Launcher, click on the bottom left icon and set the "Working Folder". Then launch MF5 in standard dvd-video mode.
What operating system are you using?
Most likely XP_SP2 correct? If not SP2 this could be a problem. MF5 requires SP2.

Re: i had done it but it failed
It is quiet a flaw in my opinion and it persists in DVDMF6+ as well. When you capture you get a drop down list to choose/browse your depository. When you inport NOTHING, and then when you move it, you get the broken links dialog. I was really hoping they were going to fix this in 6+ since it is such simple programing code to do. It did not happen though. It surprises me since there are so many DVD & Harddrive cams out there.harry_hariz wrote:yes mine xpsp2 but i had change it to d which is my storage of my video..under prefrences all ulead products are mived set its fiolder to D but when reboot it build another folder in my doc...what a happy?
I have never experienced this with any versions of MF.
But I think maybe there is a good chance you are clicking on the windows "X" button to exit and close the "Preferences" screen instead of hitting the "OK" Button.
Make sure to always use the OK buttons and not the "X" button when setting any preferences in MF6. So never use the "X" button that windows displays at the top right hand side of the window to close any open windows that are configuration windows or settings.. If you do use this button (The "X") then the settings will be lost. The "X" is a windows button not a MF6 program button. Hit the OK button to confirm and also to Exit any windows when using any windows, popups or configuration modules in MF (any version).

I think you are missing the point. While "capturing you can create a folder on the fly and send the vid data exactly where you want it based the video data you are capturing. When importing you look at the thumbnail and you exit out and create the folder then you go to the preferences and then then you get out of there and then you go back to importing and then you finally inport. when it could be so simple like when you capture and go "oh that is the tape I got here, great I will create a new folder that describes the data" and everything falls into place.etech6355 wrote:I have never experienced this with any versions of MF.

Make sense?
No, not at all. When you start any video editing program you setup your Preferences and a "Working Folder" & save the Project. You do the same with MF.Make sense?
The capture video versus import dvd's are different terms with different functions.
When you first start MF you assign a working folder. When you import any videos from a dvd they are extracted from the dvd and put into a folder called "Capture". This Capture Directory is located below your assigned "Working Folder". Ex: "G:\Dads_Birthday" -> "Capture" (file1,file2 etc)It is quiet a flaw in my opinion and it persists in DVDMF6+ as well. When you capture you get a drop down list to choose/browse your depository. When you inport NOTHING, and then when you move it, you get the broken links dialog. The choice of where to capture video (not import from dvd's) is standard for any video editing program to be able to assign a capture folder.
Sorry, this is all nonsense, I only responded to help because you posted that when assigning a working folder that MF6 isn't using your settings and defaults to your user profile settings under "My Documents". Then you state this is a flaw or bug. It's not a flaw nor a bug. It's your workflow.
There is one point here. Using MF6 if it cannot see the assigned working folder that's was saved in the project file it will default to your user profile home directory.
OR, you start MF6 clean it will try to use the LAST assigned working folder. If you have moved / renamed / deleted the assigned working folder then MF6 again will default to your user profile home directory.
Never change your assigned "Working Folder" in the middle of a project. Always assign a working folder as the first thing to do when starting any new project. Then save the project (I also save my projects under the assigned working folder). But I Capture HighDef Video to a different drive.

etech stay with me on this. I don't want to lose your input, so correct me if I have this wrong!
In preferences the working folder is not meant for the cache files and such? In any case trust me, the following is what happens when trying to get a project going with DVDMF6+ and you own a DVD Camera.
Go to launcher change the working folder to a new folder then click on Import/Capture then click on Import from DVD then select the clips you want and then import them. They do not go to the working folder.
If you select launcher then video/slideshow disc then new project and check preferences you will see a different working folder!! Change it here and the that is where your data files will land!
It is just that I will have several different projects on my DVD Cam. Since I can preview the different clips why can't I choose right then and there where they will go.
Capture and Import are depending on which kind of camera (tape v. disk) you have the start of the whole process. If you have a tape based camera you are in great shape to choose on the "fly" exactly where you want to store different clips (cells). If you have a DVD disc based camera you have to go in and out of several menus/programs to set folder where they go. Also if you have a tape based camera DVDMF will provide the date the tape was shot. I you have a DVD disc camera DVDMF plays dumb on the date.
Finally DVDMF3.5 had a relink program. Does DVDMF6?
