Hello skier-hughes,
I do believe that it is more a Software than a Hardware problem.
The major question relies on the Software PAL M decoder parameters and the corresponding VS "setability", it means if it is possible to set the ULEAD VS to decode and process PAL M images grabbed by the CompUSA USB device.

If I remember correctly, Brasilian PAL-M has the same 720x480 screen dimensions as NTSC.

I think that the only difference is in the color-coding.

You should be able to create a PAL-M compliant DVD by leaving VideoStudio in NTSC, and, to burn the DVD, select Preferences->Advanced from the burner utility and in the Advanced pane, check-off "NTSC/PAL safe color".

Dear WestbrookNH,
I'm not so far yet... I'm not dreaming of burning DVD's.
At first I have to get the material in to the computer and this is my present Achilles heel.
I still got stuck on the grabbing phase.
But thanks anyhow

Have you tried to capture the PAL-M signals with VideoStudio set for NTSC capture? I think this might work.

Yes, and without any result.
Thanks

I'm not sure that the videograbber is passive, as it may not be able to decode the signal properly. Of course I may be wrong, but one thing I've learnt in problem solving, is don't rule anything out until you have proved it works.

I would be interested in the results of testing it with another pc and software, or trying another method of getting the analogue signal to the pc, do you know anyone who has another type of converter? Any shops where you could go in and test teh ones they sell?
