My last post was to faithx5. DVDMF 4 does not have any updates for now.
quasimodo1 wrote:So I start to burn, no problem I did try that "Check for corrupted files" button but when clicked it came up with.. this file is unsupported. However it does not seem to have made much difference.
File not support message is shown because the CODEC for the file is not installed.
quasimodo1 wrote:Anyway it burns okay and the job is finished. I take the disk downstairs and with eager anticipation put it in my televisions (Philips) DVD Player/Recorder. What happens? It keeps coming up "Disk Error" or "Unreadable format"!
Philips does not like many media. My friend's Philips only accepts DVD-ROM (did I say that already??). I think you are having the media compatibility problem with the player....:(

Have you tried to take the burned disc to other non-Philips player to see if the disc can be played?? I personally use a Lite-On burner with Sony/Melody/RiData DVD+Rs, and I can play the burned disc (authored by DVDMF 4) in my Lite-On player without any problem.
quasimodo1 wrote:At the moment I am burning a file and it says the recording format is DVD-Video. I will try and play it when finished. Once again many thanks to all of you for your help. it really is appreciated! I also think the kids will appreciate as well!

Finally, I have e-mailed "Philips" UK to see if they have any answers.

Hope your problem got solved, sincerely!! Please keep us posted.

Thanks! Media now fine, but need codecs?

Hello, all who have helped me. Firsly let me say I think you have resolved my problem!

I have now downloaded and played on my TV DVD player two avi files.

However I have downloaded four files. I go to preview them in "Windows Media Player 10" and I get the following message:

"Window Media Player cannot play this file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found."

Okay, now you have mentioned "Codecs" before so I have downloaded the following: Divx pack and K-Lite codec pack.

Trouble is... (Ignorance strikes again!) They are in thier own separate folders in the "Programs" file and I really do not know what I am supposed to do with them or how to use them to resolve the problem!

Should I move them and put them in the "ULead" folder?

Is there a way of telling whether you can play a file before spending a very long time downloading it? When I look at the files I would like to download they all appear the same. However some seem to require different codecs!

Once again, many thanks for your help and knowledge I could never have got this far without it! 8)

Whatever you do DO NOT install a codec pack without fully researching and following the expert guides out there.

Codec packs can get your machine really fouled up. Just be suppppper careful.

Do a google for a guide on that codec pack.

If you want to find out what Codec is needed by a program - get Gspot - it will tell you what codec is used on a particular supported file (don't think it works for mpeg2 fully though).

There are lots of "invalid" codecs swimming around the web and you should not install any codec unless you "absolutely" must and are sure it's valid and trustworthy.

Well, I can use DivX codec pack with DVDMF 4 without any problem. My DivX codec version is v5.2.1.

For K-Lite, I never use it so I cannot comment.

You do not have to put DivX in Ulead's folder.

Hope this helps.
